I agree. I enlisted at 18. Met lots of great people, but there was also lots of drinking, lots of stress, lots of testosterone. We were young, fit, passionate, amped up. There were fights from time to time. Guns other than the official tools of the trade would have been a bad idea.

I’m hearing of increased retirements and lower reenlistment rates, plus a rash of soldiers registering as conscientious objectors to this war. Apparently, when Hegseth pronounced it a holy war he opened the door to that option.

Why didn’t this come up when he ran for congress or president?
