After the morning session with the Bustards, I've spent the day exploring the area. It's very diverse in habitats, fishponds, wetlands, reedbed, steppe, gravel pit, etc. Managed to sketch a few other birds, Black-winged Stilt, Black-tailed Godwit, Mediterranean Gull, Red-crested Pochard.
I actually painted the Muttaburrasaurus too. With the new long narrow snout and front teeth plus the short arms I can’t not think this dinosaur looks like a big Thescelosaurus relative. #paleoart

My piece for Together From Afar, the HTTYD tribute exhibition celebrating the film’s 15th anniversary at Gallery Nucleus.
Digital art of a white space turtle with a blue shell carries a crescent moon on her back as five baby turtles fly around it. The background is in space with many distant white stars.

Hey #portfolioday, I draw these little weirdos. For fun (apparently).

Yep :)
Eggs are gathered when I spot a female laying them, otherwise I wait for larvae to pop up. They eat bloodworms, the larvae of blood sucking mosquitoes and other similar critters. I use rain water from the outdoors containers they’re collected from. They’re not picky, just very hungry buggies.
Several glass specimen vials, each has one Toxorhynchites egg inside.
Toxorhynchites larva under a microscope.
Toxorhynchites pupa.
Adult Toxorhynchites female on a finger.
I pick the eggs/larvae from outdoors containers, keep them in separate specimen glass vials to prevent cannibalism and release them once they’re fully grown. Easy to set up at home. The only hard part is not running out of food for them. :)
I’ve reared over a thousand of these. They’re wonderful.

My drawing of a wasp-mimic moth - an incredible black and yellow specimen with long orange antennae.
My drawing of a bright pink and yellow elephant hawkmoth.
A mottled green and brown Oleander hawkmoth, with small pink bits on its wings.
A striped hawmoth - mostly brown, with flashes of hot pink on its lower wings.
Thinking about how cool moths are.
I love to look at my orange tree
Close up of my latest drawing - a bright yellow variegated grasshopper. In this shot, you can see a red and black foreleg, a black and yellow head with big red eyes, and part of the vivid yellow thorax.
This next image shows parts of the bold green forewings and transparent hindwings, along with a striped yellow and black abdomen.
This image focuses on a chunky hind leg with a black knobbly knee joint.
This final images shows the full drawing in a wooden frame against a blue wall. The grasshopper is viewed from above with spread legs and wings.
I decided not to post any progress shots of this one, to hopefully make the reveal more impact full.
But has it worked?
Zonocerus variegatus.

An illustration of archeopteryx - a feathered dinosaur often described as a “missing link” between dinosaurs and modern birds. It is shown with a pale grey body, dark wing and tail feathers and bright yellow jaws, leaping from a tree in pursuit of a dragonfly.
Learning to fly.
The dinosaur that changed everything: Archaeopteryx lithographica.
