Minus the Nazi bits, right? He doesn't exactly strike *all* the right notes for some of us...

At Synagogues, Tensions Are Boiling Over Disagreements about Gaza and Zionism have divided congregations.

Wow. This was quite the read. I started reading it before realizing it was about my very own synagogue, my very own rabbis, my very own community. It was a tough read in some ways, but I think it was an honest assessment of what many of us are grappling with. www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...

Same. I am struggling mightily to do anything remotely productive.

It’s not a question of either/or. There should be and can be room for both.

But that’s not the question usually posed. It’s “Do Jews have the right to self-determination in their ancestral homeland?” It’s a much more nuanced question to wrestle with, I think, than what is presented here by Mehdi. It also separates the question and its answer from the current gov’t of Israel

Those first quiet days are the absolute worst, but it does get easier. I’m so sorry for your loss, but happy for you that you had so many long years with her ❤️

I really think this the perfect summary of the problem.

the solution isn't "fewer taxes on everyone but the rich" it's "more taxes for everyone but BIG TIME AND ESPECIALLY the rich." This way rich people pay their share but everyone is paying into systems that have the funding to benefit them! It's really simple! Even a guy named Cory can understand it!

My now-18 yo daughter turned had her first birthday two days after election day that year. I remember feeling so much hope for her future...and here we are. But perhaps we can still swing the pendulum the other way. There's still hope, it's just not the same kind of hope.

I’m a tax lawyer, not a policy expert (I just deal with the aftermath of the policy), but this is beyond reckless & stupid. How are we supposed to fund progressive programs with tax policies like this, especially after the gutting of our tax base from TCJA and OBBBA? I expect better from my senator

I am still surprised by each passing day in which that cross doesn't burn a hole into her chest.

Army surgeon in WWII then ENT doc; wife was a nurse. Other grandpa was an English prof, and during WWII worked for the Army press corps and documented the Nuremburg Trials; his wife was a teacher who taught for Head Start in 1950's Louisiana; they got crosses burned on their yard for her efforts

I'm rather relieved my daughter won't be attending UT next year. And as a UT grad and former adjunct, it really, really pains me to say that.

Texas attorney general sues Bexar County over immigration defense fund The county is giving funding to nonprofits to provide legal representation for immigrants facing deportation.

I love Texas as the place I was raised and educated in. Various members of my family have lived in and found their way back to Texas six generations back. But man, its government makes it a hard place to continue to love. Breaks my damn heart every day.

One of the best moments in the history of the profession, IMHO.

In case you didn’t know: if you squeeze the little fluffy puffs at the end of the strings, the little ears on his hat will inflate and stand up…in case your heart wasn’t broken enough by this image and headline.

Same, friend. Mine is acutely aware of the history he is living. It breaks my heart, but these kids are pretty inspiring too.

Eliminating immigrant jails (and jails for kids) is a vital demand.

A screen shot of a tweet from Dec 2019. It says:
Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime” is about friends practicing witchcraft, but then someone walks in and they have to suddenly play it cool

Then there is a picture of the lyrics that say:
The moon is right
The spirits up
We’re here tonight
And that’s enough (someone walks in)
SIMPLY HAVING A WONDERFUL CHRISTMASTIME
SIMPLY HAVING A WONDERFUL CHRISTMASTIME

This tweet is several years old, but since all cats are witches, it explains his love for the song.
