Hey @markhamillofficial.bsky.social, you were freaking awesome as the Major in #TheLongWalk. I knew you would be, but you exceeded my (high) expectations.

It’s fun to play the bad guy, isn’t it? (I got to do it on stage in high school.)

It makes it that much trippier.

I saw it in the theater, and it was amazing. The constant movement of the “camera” enhanced the drug-haze weirdness of the film, and the ending hit like a hammer even though I’d already read the book and knew what would happen.

Bought all ten. Looking forward to Moon’s Artifice, which I’m reading first.

Color Polaroid photo in landscape view. It shows author Debbie Urbanski, a fair-skinned woman with sleek ash-blonde hair worn in what might technically be a bob? And might just reach her shoulders? Lens flare makes it hard to tell. She is in three-quarters view, with the camera shooting upward from below. She is standing inside, perhaps in a house; there’s a white-painted doorframe behind her, but it’s hard to see much else because of the angle. She wears a collared denim shirt and large, roundish cat-eye glasses. Her expression serious, she regards something at her eye level that we can’t see.

Head-and-shoulders color photo of author Christopher Tradowsky, a fair skinned man with straight blond hair worn at collar length, a graying blond beard and goatee, and thick blond eyebrows. He stands before a background of leafed-out green trees and buildings with low stone arches. He wears a collared seersucker shirt with thin horizontal stripes. Shoulders squared forward, he looks straight into the camera with a serious smile.

Waist-up color photo of writer Ben Francisco, a Latinx person with dark hair worn short, dark eyes, and perfectly arched eyebrows. They wear a dark brown turtleneck, a long scarf patterned in swirls of bright, warm colors, and gold stud earrings. They stand in front of a bookcase full of speculative fiction titles and smile warmly into the camera.

Color close-up of Suzan Palumbo, a Trini woman with dark hair worn in a short asymmetrical bob and tipped with purple. She wears heavy black eyeliner, a black shirt with a collar, and a dark gray necktie. She looks to the side with a serious expression.

Also I think the most direct expression of Taoist philosophy in her fiction.

It’s a good essay. I remember Usenet and the early web.

The very, very early web. I beta tested Mosaic on the NeXT and once surfed the entire World Wide Web in about an hour. (It consisted of a single test site.)

Countess A queer Caribbean COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO in which a betrayed captain is set on a journey of revenge against the interplanetary empire that has subjugated her people for generations.

I’m a little late to the game, but the excellent Suzan Palumbo’s Countess is well worth checking out.
