I don't know if it's my neurospiciness or lack of cultural education or what, but I have a hard time connecting emotionally with artwork. For example, I was at a museum this weekend where I saw this Jackson Pollack painting, and all I could think was, "gee, that looks like a pokeball at the top."

I keep thinking about the guy quoted in an article last year who voted for Trump because it was fun, like sports, and was surprised to learn there were actual consequences to people's lives. I don't know how we address the fact that so many voters are so fundamentally misinformed.

Random thought: how come they don't call it "baking pop" in the midwest?

The Intermediaries All of this has happened before, and it will all happen again, a sentiment originating with J.M. Barrie's introduction to Peter Pan and popularized more recently in the Battlestar Galactica reboot, came to mind often as I read Brandy Schillace's excellent "The Intermediaries: A Weimar Story", a detailed history

I wrote about the excellent history "The Intermediaries: A Weimar Story" by Brandy Schillace and its parallels with current events

Save the Green Planet has more of an over the top comic book vibe, I think. Also gave me Repo Men vibes. Bugonia was more polished.

My meaningless take of the day: I love Emma Stone/Jorgos Lanthimos collaborations, but I confess that I enjoyed "Save the Green Planet" more than I enjoyed "Bugonia". Maybe because I saw the former first, idk.

I can't believe I went with L'il Meddler when Bette Meddler was right there.

Yes! Now hospitals in New York and California have no excuse not to reopen their gender care clinics, though I'm not naive enough to believe they will do so without pressure from State AGs.

If Democrats take the Senate in the mid-terms there better be no more judicial confirmations, SCOTUS or otherwise, as long as Trump/Vance are in office.

Post a weird take about modern TV shows. I'll start...

I kind of hate all the texting going on among TV characters. Either they go by too fast or I have the wrong glasses on (I'm old), but I'm constantly going, "wait, what?" and having to back up.

Mary Worth Comic Strip 2026-04-18 | Comics Kingdom Read the Mary Worth comic strip from April 18, 2026, and check out other Mary Worth comics by Karen Moy & June Brigman.

FWIW I think it's charming that Mary sets a place for her cat, L'il Meddler, on the dinner table.

If this were Star Trek, Spock would point to this typo as evidence that the Enterprise computer had been hacked. In the real world, I point to it as evidence that everything is becoming enshittified.

Where It Ends Answering the enabler's constant question, and contemplating the depraved depths of the billionaire mindset.

A good read from A.R. Moxon

"At a certain point of wealth, what is being pursued seems not to be wealth, but the ability to make other people suffer. What's being pursued is immunity from human decency; the ability and even the right to be depraved with impunity."

I ended up with an extra copy of "We Will Rise Again" because I forgot that I had pre-ordered it (oopsie), but I'm very pleased it auctioned for $65 for Point of Pride during the #transrightsreadathon auction. Annalee Newitz @older.bsky.social @pointofpride.org
