After reading a lot of the Claude Code base that was leaked taught me two things
1. I have never been more reassured than I am now. Software Developers will be around for a long time.
2. Claude Code has a hidden command to hide that a contribution was made by a Claude employee
"AI is just another tool" No. Tools don't have logins, subscriptions, or silent updates that change how they function. You own tools. You control tools. AI is a *platform* until this is what coding with LLMs means
(and if it becomes a tool we should remember that some tools require training to use)

This is indicative of a mindset which essentially says "there can be no such thing as scholarship or intelligence when it comes from a group I've been conditioned to demonize" and we'd all be better off if we realized these people are simply like this. When employers want to tie your performance to your AI usage, you use AI, whether you actually use the output or not. It's a pretty common story around me.

fwiw I don't think it is possible to build genAI in such a way that it benefits workers rather than capital because it is fundamentally based on non consensual extraction of labour to get going. what would it actually mean for the workers to own the means of production here
Because the lessons of the Holocaust is not that we "shouldn't do a Holocaust", it's that we should oppose the conditions that made the cruelty of the Holocaust possible at all: authoritarianism, laws of the strongest, scapegoating and oppression of minorities, normalizing apartheid & genocide, etc.
This book was foundational for me all the way back then, I cannot recommend this enough.
It is still wild to me that people can keep a straight face while calling AI value-neutral when plenty of the harms have been documented. It's not really a matter of opinions at this point.

Agreed, it's the "rules for thee but not for me" that is making it unethical in my mind. Copyright is not an amazing way to deal with our current world, but why should the right to ignore it be based on how many billions you spend?
