Contractor was mobilizing on Holland Lane to begin milling of the road, paving to follow, and then bike lanes and marked crosswalks. Most of the pedestrian curb cuts, and islands had been previously installed. A safer corridor for all will soon be at hand. Thanks to city staff for this improvement.

Stephanie, The city prefers to design standard width bike lanes that do not include the gutter pan. However, there are examples where a standard bike lane, including the gutter pan doesn’t fit. Examples are on Monroe Avenue and Jamieson. An option on Braddock lower speed limit to 20 mph.

Some clarifications to the “Nowhere” poster are in order. Bike lanes exist both westbound and eastbound On Braddock. Bike lanes begin westbound just past the Community Praise Center and end at Windsor Avenue. Eastbound they begin at Timber Branch and end at Ruffner.

Portland is first U.S. city to make protection the default for all new bike lanes | PeopleForBikes Sometimes, the most important question in the world is “why not?”

When she lived in Portland, she was Leah Treat. This might answer your question.
“Effective immediately, every time Portland road designers recommended a bike lane, they would need to make it a protected bike lane — or else explain why not.”

The city applied for Smart Scale funding for a proposed redo of the western end of Eisenhower Avenue to include the bike lanes. That request was not successful. The city then submitted a request to the NVTA. That request is pending a Spring 2026 decision. Request was for $21,856,219.

I had recently asked if that jarring bit could be repaired. Was told that section of the trail (west of Beauregard) will be closing shortly to build the new bridge.

Your blog was the best to cover the DMV biking community. I learned much from your posts and explored many of the places you wrote about. I always referred people who biked to your blog. Definitely a great resource for many years. Thank you for making biking better in the DMV.
