Cute!
That grid is interesting. It's not just a standard square grid... Is it following the terrain gradient to form the grid or something?

Also, gamedev is *packed* with trans folks. For lots of us old cis dudes in gamedev, attacking trans folks is attacking our colleagues and friends.
Nice! I did some prototypes based on your shadertoy, and it's just beautiful. The erosion effect is wonderful. But extending it to produce rivers, deltas etc... Yeah, that gets tricky real fast!
Niiice. You mentioned in your erosion shadertoy that you had been experimenting with adding rivers to it. Did you end up finding something good down that path?
i was daydreaming about a way to do rhythmic fingerprinting, but found it was fun on spoken word and made a little visualizer that accidentally looks like graf writing... @colormotor.bsky.social might like it :) (sample is edward murrow speaking against mccarthy-ism in 1954, fwiw)
Appropriately, Epic's office feels just as kit bashed

The Kylie Minogue and Chemical Brothers ones are personal favorites
To me this sounds like they're just preparing the ground for firing more people.
"See, we need to fire 30% of you because games can't cost 70$"
"Animated Bokeh" has been on my whiteboard for a long time, and this is the result.
I thought it would just be for cheesy novelty effects, but it also does lightfield manipulation that was cooler than I expected.

Is this how pipe organs were invented?
"Need more pipes. Moar! Crap, not enough air.
...
Wait...🤔"

Choice quote from GDC's state of the industry report:
She might have gone with whatever is the default hearing aid, though. I guess you could go a lot fancier and do better audio processing if you're not concerned too much with battery life or the aid being visible...
My mom lost all hearing on one side after a motorcycle accident in her 20's, which severed her auditory nerve. She's always reported issues with balance and noise isolation. She started using a hearing aid a few years ago after her the other ear started deteriorating, and it's pretty meh TBH 😔
Just did a quick test flicking the joystick back and forth on a PS5 controller, and my angle looks essentially the same as yours.
This looks to me like a failure on Sony's part? They should have corrected for this either in HW (rotating the joystick) or in the controller firmware
We have an intern working on her thesis now, and she started by using Gigi... then went on try FAST noise... and is now watching lectures about optimal transport.
At this point I just tell her "can you guess who you should talk about that next?" 😅
Hey, is there anything I can do to help narrow this one down?
It turns out it had nothing to do with the speed modifier, and it was seemingly that scrubbing while the preview is being generated leads to general wonkiness?
Ok, I think I have a repro now.
Sorry the video is a bit long
It was indeed. I had one clip, I cut it in 5 parts, set speed to 8x on the 2 on the even positions. So, (N)ormal, (F)ast: NFNFN
The last normal one was where I noticed the desync
I tried using it last week. Two issues I ran into:
- speed modifier was annoying (already mentioned by someone else)
- video playback preview desynced from the actual edit, so it was showing me the wrong parts of the video. The final render was different from the preview 😔
Don't worry, Amazon's new CEO will turn the ship around by... (checks notes...) firing the folks the company depends on to keep working

Just came across this. She uploaded a 6 minute video of that session. Pure awesomeness ❤️

Getting flashbacks of musicians checking how their carefully mastered songs sound on shitty phone speakers and earbuds before releasing them, because "that's how most people will actually listen to it" 😭
It's wild how different the effects are on different people. For me methylphenidate (Concerta) has a _much_ faster onset, more mouth dryness, a lot less sweating and much more stable mood than Elvanse.
It was stable in the "all anxiety all the time" kind of way, though, which admittedly isn't great
I mean... the combined hyperfixations of music, games, programming, synths, the specific tactility of certain things... if that's not an autistic gravitational vortex I don't know what would be 😅
I absolutely love it. I could listen to hours of this, with her calmly narrating what she's doing. Feels like she's coordinating a docking sequence with the spaceship traffic control authority.
Oh, and she's around here!
@switchangel.bsky.social fantastic stuff!
This is the way I've ended up doing recorded presentations too.
I seem to be incapable of facing a blank page, and this works to fill the page with _something_ you can refine later.
Light version of this is talking to yourself in the shower.
Sounds like what a vampire would say... 🤔
Both. This seems more chill... but also more sanitized.
Mastodon is spicier, but also more fun.
I open one or the other based on how much spice I want a given day
