Andrew Cooper: 'Rediscovering love of reading is something worth supporting' This year, 2026, has been declared the National Year of Reading, a timely and much-needed effort to rekindle a love of books across all ages.

I'm really pleased to be championing the DfE's National Year of Reading.

My column in the Northwich and Winsford Guardian this week focuses on the importance of supporting children to discover the joys of reading for pleasure.

This was the hardest speech I've ever made, speaking about my own experiences of our justice system in opposition to my own party's proposals on courts.

Very grateful for all of the gentle and kind responses, and hope I have given a voice to other survivors who feel as I do without my platform.

Andrew Cooper: 'Cap will end one of the worst injustices of the leasehold system' For many people, the reality of home ownership has fallen far short of the dream they were promised.

So many people in Mid Cheshire have been screwed over by the current leasehold system. I'm delighted that the Government are taking steps to tackle it, but much more needs to be done.

I discuss this topic more in my latest column for the Northwich and Winsford Guardian👇

This is exactly my worry. I'm reminded that the people who were calling for a Grand Theft Auto ban when I was in my teens are the people who have fallen victim to a Facebook/YouTube algorithm that re-enforces their worst prejudices and actively radicalises.

Andrew Cooper: 'Children spend too long in front of screens' Whether it is tablets, laptops or phones, there is growing concern about the impact prolonged screen use is having on children’s development.

Online safety and screen time for kids is a hot topic at the minute.

In this weeks column I've pondered over the Government's first national screen time guidance for under-fives. I'm really interested to hear people's thoughts on this as well as the wider consultation.

Andrew Cooper: 'Improving public transport connectivity is a top priority in 2026' As we head into the New Year, it’s a good moment to take stock, not just of what’s been achieved, but of what still needs doing here in Mid…

My first Northwich and Winsford Guardian column of the year focuses on the case for reopening Middlewich train station.

I also raised this in the chamber yesterday and I'm really pleased that the Transport Secretary has agreed to discuss the idea with me.

Sigourney Weaver Says She Wishes DreamWorks Released A Director’s Cut Of ‘Galaxy Quest,’ Reminisces On Sequel That Never Came To Pass Sigourney Weaver reflected on cult classic Galaxy Quest and how she wishes the sci-fi satire had released an R-rated director's cut.

Galaxy Quest - a perfect movie, just a wonderful love letter to actors, sci-fi, Star Trek in particular, and to fandom - really deserves a proper physical release with decent extras. Think Weaver's right that releasing a R-rated cut would be fun, too.

Andrew Cooper: 'Politics should be about talking to others' One of the most rewarding parts of being your MP is getting the chance to meet people face to face, to listen, to talk, and to learn about what…

Politics should never be about talking at people; it should be about talking with them.

Coffee mornings are a key way that I connect with my constituents and I always leave these coffee mornings with pages of notes and a renewed sense of purpose.
