ah, that makes sense!
Wish there were a way to just tag a surface feature for auto-guiding.
Great catch! Did you hand track out leave the mount in standard tracking?
It’s getting cloudier, so I”ll probably just get some calibration flats and bring it in.
The whole thing can be powered by UGREEN USB-C power banks, using an adafruit USB-C —> 12vdc 5521 barrel converter cable.
Travel telescope in an airline carry-on case.
This setup is designed to fit in a standard airline carry-on hard case (minus batteries and the tripod).
I’m using a Nanuk 935 case with some TrekPak-style dividers.
Monkey Head Nebula (with so-so conditions including high-altitude clouds).
Now I’m testing 5 min exposures on the Monkey Head Nebula through some high altitude cloud.
Using Antlia tri-band filter here.
Guiding graph - new Zwo AM3N
Testing a new Zwo AM3N mount—part of an 80mm APO travel setup.
So far, guiding looks good! For reference, I have a ~2”/px imaging scale. 🔭

Meet three scientists who said no to Epstein. The warning signs included a web search, a mother’s doubts, and inklings of a “sexist attitude” www.science.org/content/arti...
If your profs aren't willing / able to accommodate, talk to us associate deans next. This is one of the (few) things we're good for!
(Also talk to your advisors -- they also have a suite of tools / tricks they can use!)
Really nicely done! Glad you got a good night of viewing!
Indeed. New grants are not getting funded, already funded grants are not getting paid, and non-competitive renewals are being held up.
Focusing on the top line budget, instead of looking at what is really happening on “the ground” is deeply misguided.
Family in the area (Pender) report seeing fridge shaking but thankfully haven't heard any damage
Interested in doing a PhD in tumor mechanobiology?
At Université Paris-Saclay, the upcoming PhD selection process is open, and I’m looking to put forward a candidate to join my lab.
If you’re excited about uncovering how mechanical signals regulate tumor progression, please get in touch!
The first version of FigTree was released nearly 20 years ago and it is still widely used (including by me). But there are currently 85 issues on the GitHub repo (github.com/rambaut/figt...) and some of them I don’t really like the look of.
Can astronomical imaging be more sensitive, with no additional observations?
Guo et al. apply machine learning to the co-addition (stacking) of multiple exposures. For stacks of 8 JWST NIRCam exposures, the detection limit improves by 1 magnitude. ☄️🔭 #astrocode

I'll pop out of basement on campus in a moment. We had tree bending winds when I went down
Thanks Cody!
Continue to stay where you are, Bloomington. Behemoth of a supercell. Rotation should be directly over downtown now (7:11 pm)
@cody.im hail and strong (northbound) winds at campus east or northeast of tornado, so there's that CCW rotation. Heading to basement
I see it on radar now. Tornado on the ground, west side of town. Bloomington, safe place, now.
Strongest circulation is now passing by the airport. Again, Bloomington, safe place. No obvious tornado but only takes a minute or so for one to pop out.
Sirens on IUB campus. Looks dark and ominous to west
Our tornado warning should be coming soon. More details once that happens.
