Well said. Two people I never met, but learned so much from.

the Militime has come
Giles was so generous with his time and so helpful when it came to explaining to journalists very clearly and with quotable precision exactly how a wrong un landlord was being a wrong un. But mostly I just remember thinking he was a really, really kind human who cared about the state of others.
*shocked*
Gosh. I am so very sorry, but above all, so very sorry.
For more than a decade a we warned about Christian nationalism, insisting that we take them seriously, we were dismissed as alarmists.
Don't do that here.
Somewhere Bismarck is looking down in confusion as Germany projects power by sending 4,000 pensioners, 12 buffet stations and a TUI loyalty program through the Strait of Hormuz
Wogan Cavern: Recent excavations have so uncovered rare evidence of early humans and animals - including the bones of a hippopotamus which roamed Wales 120000 years ago. Five more years of digs are planned, starting again soon. A cave with Palaeolithic remains beneath medieval Pembroke Castle.
Mamdani: "What are we fighting for?. When you look back at the history books of our party, 100 years ago we had a very clear vision of what we were fighting for. It's sad that for too many Americans, when they want to look for ambition in the Democratic Party, then have to turn to a history book."
“Reform UK have suffered some of their most devastating polling to date after they dropped a huge five points in the space of a week.”

BBC News is going very hard on its investigation into advisers who help people ‘fake’ asylum claims, focusing especially on people who falsely claim to be gay. But it doesn’t say what percentage of claims are made on the basis of sexuality. As of 2023 — the last available figures — it was 3%.
It is a profound irony when the nation under attack feels more empathy for the attacker's citizens than the attacking government itself.
And that is it exactly: the project is inherently flawed. We cannot expect perfection, democratic or otherwise, from a non federalist post national integrative telis. BUT that is the point: how wonderful, no superstate, just respect for neighbours holding us together. Civility is worth the pursuit.
Halleluja. Might I say how impressive you have all been these last years. For myself, I found it impossible to comment on the post-Brexit fantasy world. My brain couldn't cope with the reality disconnect. But, we desperately needed comment: thanks to you and all who hung on in....
A sanctioned Iranian supertanker - with its tracker on - has sailed through the Strait of Hormuz into Iran without interference. (Fars)
Looks like the US blockade is just hot air. Who would have guessed.
Congratulations. What a wonderful programme remarkably free of pointless constraints!
I may be wrong: the technicalities of Brexit were one big soporific to me, but didn't the Withdrawal Act itself give Ministers extraordinary powers to use SIs to smooth 'divergence'? Powers that can also be turned to convergence, surely? Tehe...
Your vote matters.
“It’s deeply shocking that Reform has developed such close ties with Orbán’s regime, an authoritarian govt with an appalling record of rolling back democracy and civic rights”
Where ‘deeply shocking’ = entirely on brand.
Hungary shows us we must never give them power.

If Trump really wants to show the Iranians what's what, he should threaten to bomb US airbases in the region, too.
As do I
Another thing that helps imposter syndrome in the academy: remembering that we are all simply part of a set of long, ongoing conversations & just contributing in the moment, rather than seeing our interventions as some sort of endpoint. Not knowing something is an opportunity, not a roadblock.
With this poll, Orbán is laying the ground to refuse to recognise anything but a win by him as legitimate, eg. www.hungarianconservative.com/articles/cur.... Such an outcome would drive a further wedge between Europe and the US government.
