I put the folder on the bus and had a cycle around the Blackpool Mill area woodlands looking for newly arrived migrant birds. Sadly none of my target birds of Tree Pipit, Garden Warbler or Wood Warbler back yet. The cycling made up for the lack of target birds ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

The Netherlands has one of the best cycle infrastructures in the world and the Dutch attitude to cycling is so different to the UK. Hire a bike when you are there and see for yourself.

Dawn, you need to get back on the horse or bike in this case as it is a wonderful way to bird. As for traffic i try to avoid riding on roads with heavy traffic and always try to find a cycle path.

I think train companies should be compelled by government to make more space for cyclists on trains.

Many butterfly trips planned on my new folding bike by train and bus.
Pearl-bordered Fritillary (Ceredigion), Large Blue (Gloucestershire), Purple Emperor (Worcestershire) and finally Silver-spotted Skipper (Dorset). ๐Ÿšฒ ๐Ÿš‚ ๐ŸšŒ

Yes, most train companies have space for bikes but not like in Europe where they often have half or a full train carriage for bikes. The infrastructure in Europe is also superior for bikes. Ie separated bike lanes that are traffic free. The culture is different for cyclists in Europe.

I put the folder on the St Davids bus today in search of spring migrants and i wasn't disappointed: 11 white wagtails, 1 wheatear, 1 sandwich tern, 1 marsh harrier, 1 sedge warbler, 1 common whitethroat, good numbers of willow warblers/chiffchaffs & a Great Egret at various St Davids sites.

I caught the train over to Carmarthen and cycled Tywi Valley cycle path from Abergwili to Dryslwyn and back. Bird highlights were 2 Little-ringed Plovers, a Common Sandpiper, Willow Warbler and my first Orange Tip of the year. Plus some fabulous cycling on this new cycle path ๐Ÿšฒ ๐Ÿ˜€

Actually, it was 4 buses and 3 trains from Hunstanton to Ludham Bridge and back to Hunstanton. The ยฃ3 bus cap on single fares in England is excellent ๐Ÿ‘Œ

It was nice to refind the Black-winged Kite for the other birders present (it had not been seen since midday) after a mega public transport journey from Hunstanton 2 buses and one train ๐ŸšŽ ๐ŸšŒ ๐Ÿš‚ ๐Ÿ˜€

Not a great first day in Norfolk dipping the Ferruginous Duck this morning. Titchwell RSPB was slightly better with 2 Cattle Egrets flying over at dusk, Scaup and around 40 + Med Gulls. 10 Red-legged Partridges were rather nice whilst waiting for the bus.

Another trip out to St Davids by bus. A Cetti's Warbler was the highlight at Pencarnan they don't breed out at St Davids and i presume this bird was a spring passage bird. There were still 3 White-fronted Geese at Penberi Reservoir.
