Business degrees are booming in the UK. Who is profiting? Average incomes five years after graduating are less than for people who studied nursing

Really important Big Read this on what is just straightforwardly a misselling scandal taking place in plain sight in my view:

The GOP has an ideological recruitment advantage in that the only price of entry is proof of hatred, and once you’ve punched that ticket they’ll helpfully present you with a laundry list of everyone else you might also want to hate with them.

It can't be said often enough, so I'll say it again:

Solar and batteries can power the world! It's cheaper than gas (esp. at today's prices) and a lot more reliable.

By 2030, solar and batteries could supply 90% of electricity to 80% of the world's population for < €80/MWh (including backup).

The UK must immediately and unequivocally suspend support for the US military.

The Government have tried to appease him, then they tried to say they're standing up to him.

Words aren't enough - it's time for action.

i still think no one has done justice to ramayana in indian cinema/tv than bapu's very lovingly made sita kalyanam and sampurna ramayanam

just seeing this, but the ramayana thing SSR is doing is very much located in the crazed hindutva zeitgeist.

however, i still think varanasi is going to be really enoyable movie despite questionable politics. this new ramayana trailer was just slop.

On the 58th anniversary of Dr. King's assassination, it's time to reckon with the media's troubling role in the civil rights struggle. (I pitched this to @nytimes.com who found it "fascinating..[but] the news is making deeper & certainly more historical pieces very hard." But they're the news.) A 🧵

I think it's interesting to watch this in contrast to the relatively sensible interventions from other European leaders and wonder if it's not in part that our politicians and media are still on Twitter.

Bizarre fossils reveal that complex life evolved far earlier on Earth than we thought A treasure trove of fossils from China shows that the Cambrian explosion may have been less explosive than scientists once believed

There's a fundamental issue with "no longer be investigating legal social media posts" which is that, and I can't believe I have to explain this to the Home Office, it is quite hard to know what is legal and what is illegal without investigating.

Workers carved the largest modern Hindu temple in the west. Now, some have incurable lung disease Workers allege abuse, visa fraud and medical neglect during the New Jersey temple’s construction – and say two died from lung disease caused by inhaling silica dust

The open scandal of this monstrous site, built on Dalit slave labor, will never not enrage me.

Honestly considering the number of people in fandom space who absolutely crash out if the moral isn't one they exactly endorse stated as explicitly as possible with everyone who dared act against it very harshly punished, indeed if they are even comfortable with evil depicted at all...we need this.

Israel has pushed ground forces into multiple areas of southern Lebanon

They've displaced huge numbers of civilians...

Yet it barely registers.

Russia did the same in Ukraine and the world responded with sanctions, outrage and coordinated pressure

The double standards are UNFORGIVABLE.

Parliament passes trans rights amendment bill A motion to refer the bill to a select Parliamentary committee was rejected.

This is disastrous and cannot be condemned enough. It is malicious and will harm countless people:

The bill essentially makes Hijra the only "allowed" form of being Transgender in India, and limits the changing to documents and affirmative action to them.

Things like NB and MtF were specifically framed as "Western ideas" to be rejected.

It's insanely cynical

the problem with both musk and rowling is that so much of the evidence of their insanity is not being reported. despite it being on social media for anyone to see. you sound crazy if you’re literally describing it to people who are casual news followers

if there's one conclusion that the study of both labor history and imperialism converge on, it is that the richest people in the world are happy to burn money on control, power, impunity. and the "everything is about profit" version of anti-capitalism does not survive serious contact with either

Enough with this "Judaeo-Christian" bullshit. Jews were expelled from England and only allowed back in the 17th century. The British establishment were horrendously antisemitic and the first piece of anti immigrant legislation in the UK was targeted at Jews fleeing persecution in Eastern Europe.

Science has an Epstein problem. Women in paleontology say it's a symptom of a deeper misogyny.
When paleontologist Riley Black learned that several scientists in her field had appeared in the Epstein files, she wasn't remotely shocked.

I haven’t watched a Bollywood movie in god knows how many years. It’s truly godawaful bigoted garbage for brainless chaddipanthis. Malayalam cinema and long form television shows like Paatal Lok is sadly all I can stomach of most popular media from the motherland.
