Screenshot of a slide from the draft Scottish budget 2026-27

Figure 6: Changes in resource spending between 2025-26 and 2028-29 by portfolio, real terms, £ million.

Changes in real terms spending is positive for some portfolios and negative for others.

The bar chart shows all of the portfolios in the Scottish Government and the real terms increase or decrease in spending. While Health and Social Care (~£1.1 billion), Social Justice (~£800 million) and Transport (~£200 million) see significant increases, there's a significant decrease in spending on Local Government (~£500 million).

A slide from the draft Scottish Budget papers which shows exactly why local government is struggling, and will continue to struggle, under the SNP.

University threatened with legal action after protest at event Prof Alice Sullivan says her talk at the University of Bristol became like a

Total gaslighting. Anti-trans activist; chooses to speak in person, provoking students who want to protect trans rights; they exercise their freedom of speech to tell her she isn't wanted; she gets to speak anyway; the BBC dutifully platforms her again; and now she threatens to sue everyone.

‘Perpetual limbo and alienation’: UK Government’s proposals on asylum policy Humanists UK has expressed concern at the UK Government’s proposals on asylum policy announced yesterday. Government plans will see the ability of refugees granted asylum to rebuild their lives be ham...

A system that diminishes the rights of people fleeing persecution isn't just impractical, it's a failure of our common humanity. Vital that once asylum seekers are granted refugee status, they are able to build their lives with certainty about their future & a sense of welcome.

Seven Assisted Dying Bill opponents table 587 amendments between them Today, members of the House of Lords will debate the Terminally Ill Adults Bill for the first sitting of Committee Stage. Baroness Finlay of Llandaff, Baroness Grey-Thompson, Lord Carlile of Berriew, ...

An obvious attempt to undemocratically derail a bill which has already faced more scrutiny than any other private member’s bill in recent history. This is a compassionate, popular reform that the public overwhelmingly supports. Lords should be careful not to undermine the will of the Parliament.

Interesting to see so many great British patriots right now begging an American president to bankrupt one of Britain’s last remaining truly national institutions.

Today marks 75 years of the European Convention on Human Rights. The product of high aspirations & the ultimate step in taking seriously the idea that every human being should be treated with equal dignity 🧵 #ECHR #ECHR75

Most importantly, every Councillor in the Chamber set politics aside, and united in not only backing Councillor @euandavidson.bsky.social's calls to tackle antisemitism, but helped enhance some of the asks on how it's reported back - to which we're very grateful. 2/2

Keir Starmer to announce plans for digital ID scheme The prime minister believes a new scheme would help crack down on illegal working in the UK.

Pointless, authoritarian and a waste of money.

Delighted that the @libdems.org.uk showed yet again that we reject the assault on trans people’s rights promoted by the small anti trans group in the party. #ldconf

This is ... not what the Malicious Communications act is meant to be about. This is (in my non-legal view) deliberate wrongful arrest to get them off the street for the immediate next day or so.

Reminder that the Lib Dems have continually campaigned to:

👩‍👩‍👦‍👦 Scrap the Two child Benefit Cap
🧓Keep Triple Lock Pension
❄️ Keep Winter Fuel Payments
🇪🇺 Closer ties with EU
🗳Proportional Representation
💦 💩 Clean up waterways
🌎 Net Zero
🇵🇸 Ceasefire in Gaza/
🇺🇸 Stand up to Trump

Mass starvation in Gaza and over 1,000 Palestinians killed while seeking aid since May. The government says the situation is intolerable yet they continue to tolerate it.

The UK needs to stop all arms exports to the Israeli Government - today.

Liberal Democrat Women have worked closely with Christine Jardine MP for many years and we are incredibly grateful to have her as our Honorary President.

Thank you Christine for all your wonderful work as our Women and Equalities Spokesperson and for your support last night ⭐️

I've never been prouder to work for @cajardinemp.bsky.social than in the last 24 hours. Defending the most vulnerable should be Liberalism 101.

The Government should stop tying themselves in endless knots and put this bill out of its misery.

100 MPs have now signed NC20 to give women in England and Wales the human right women in Northern Ireland have to a safe and legal abortion. Swipe to see if your MP is one of them — and what to do if they aren’t! Here’s the petition: you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/de...

This is the attitude of the SNP to our Education staff laid bare. Utter contempt.

Abortion laws exist not because medical technology can’t do amazing things, but because tragedy can be part of anyone’s parenting journey. Stand with those who need us to fight for their rights most when their world is crumbling- join us protecting safe abortion access as a human right.
