On the first day of April, 1935 (yes, April Fools’ Day), the FBI took delivery of its first polygraph instrument. Ninety-one years later, they still haven't figured out that lie detectors are bogus!

There's a reason polygraph results aren't admissible in courts around the world.
Because the results are bullshit.
It's an unethical tool used by unethical investigators looking to get convictions, consequences be fucked.
Ban the polygraph altogether.
Polygraph tests should be banned for everything because they're pseudo-scientific, inaccurate nonsense.
NEW: Utah Bans Polygraph Tests for Those Reporting Sexual Assault
A state legislator was moved to sponsor the bill — now signed into law — following a @sltrib.com & ProPublica investigation that showed how polygraphs can retraumatize sexual abuse victims.
Indeed, polygraph "testing" is pseudoscience, but it's state-sponsored pseudoscience, so that makes it okay and anyone saying otherwise is soft on crime.

"Polygraphs Aren’t Very Accurate. Are There Better Options?
Research is identifying alternative methods to the polygraph, but some doubt whether true lie detection is possible."

I FOIA'd CISA for records related to its acting director's polygraph tests. (www.politico.com/news/2025/12...) CISA says it won't release the records because they relate to "a pending or reasonably anticipated law enforcement proceeding, which may include any type of administrative proceeding."

While the U.S. remains the main user of polygraphs, the pseudoscience has sadly made inroads in numerous other countries.
We don't know what Ivana Horyn thinks about polygraphy. One would hope she would have learned over the course of her career that it's junk science. But DHS Secretary Kristi Noem is an enthusiastic supporter of polygraph screening: antipolygraph.org/blog/2025/04...

. @nbcnews.com @datelinenbc.bsky.social The polygraph is based on junk science. No American should ever agree to take one for any reason.
Congress could both enhance national security and put an end to polygraph abuse by closing the governmental loopholes in the Employee Polygraph Protection Act of 1988. See our proposed changes to this law: antipolygraph.org/ceppa.shtml
