"We want to discuss controversial ideas"
Like... rewilding? Prison abolition? Worker co-operatives? Direct democracy? Proportional representation? Hybrid economies? New educational paradigms? Indigenous land sovereignty?

It's funny how that keeps happening. Even before reality TV, so many of those famous "humans are naturally shit" experiments were extremely compromised because they weren't getting the results they wanted, or authorities straight up lied with stuff like the Bystander Effect or Stockholm Syndrome.
A lot of people talk about how popular APs have impacted the way a lot of new players approach ttrpgs, but I wonder about the role CRPGs have played. In many respects you don't have Critical Role's style and tone without Baldur's Gate and Planescape Torment.
Every single person who says "Ireland for the Irish" adds a silent invisible asterisk that leads to a footnote that says "Except Irish travellers"
The level of racist and misogynist abuse currently being levelled at Eileen Flynn online is horrendous
My deepest condolences. Take your time
Oddly enough, I'd say Homelander is a more accurate fascist in Season 5, but they've basically Flanderised his character to get there. Interesting conceptually but definitely makes for a pretty weak season so far.
Quintessential reddit behaviour. Picking an arbitrary number is so much more logical than cultivating good judgement doncha know.
Because good policy when properly implemented actually works?
I think she's trying to say that the people who deny the Holodomor only do so because they like Stalin but she did so in such an inscrutable, annoying way that it'll make the tankies dunking on it look good by comparison.
A true grognard. Equally insufferable when she's right as when she's wrong.
A digital coelacanth
Fascinating that she has the exact same mindset of the redditors she derides, just offset by a few generations.
Bluesky is amazing because they’ll see someone who hasn’t had a good time since 1996 and think “damn I wish I was her”
She seems pretty unbearable but also this is really funny
The unfortunate reality is that some stuff just requires drilling to get right. Like I get that too much stuff is taught by rote and often done that way for bad ideological reasons, but plenty of stuff requires persistence without shortcuts.
and anthropologists don't frame societies ascivilised vs uncivilised because it's not the 19th century anymore.
Like earlier to day I watched a short about the dubious origin of the phrase "archaeologists know a society is civilised when they fined evidence of a fractured femur that's healed". Putting aside that it's been misattributed to the famous anthropologist Margeret Mead, archeologists
Feel like this is a corrolary of "Trust the process".
side, this is also the case with science and humanities discourse online too so at least art isn't alone here.
I kinda wonder if part of why in this particular moment this seems controversial is that social media has completely muddied the waters regarding what are formal (in the academic sense) rules and what is half-remembered pseudointellectual tumblr posts and blogs. On the bright (actually terrible)
Nothing wrong with liking it or wanting more of it. It's just not rare.
This is like, most adventure fantasy since at least the 90s.
It's such a broad remit that even Star Wars fits. Though I would imaging it's the tone of a Delicious in Dungeon or Dorohedoro they're after.
I just find it funny that the screenshot is describing a huge amount of genre fiction. Like it's not an uncommon style of story and includes everything from Lord of the Rings to Dorohedoro
I'd love to see some statistics on which tabletop RPG has the highest "mechanical complexity in character creation" to "(lack of) engagement with the outputs of those character creation mechanics in actual play" ratio. I refuse to believe Dungeons & Dragons is even close to the worst in this regard.

This whole Palestinian scam account shit has been a boon to the absolute worst people on here (i.e. Zionists) and some more well meaning people jumping to the absolute worst conclusions amidst it. I'm just gonna stay away from this because people refuse to treat it with the nuance it needs.
It's the rendering style I think. When actually painted, the painter brings their own style to them, but I hate the dead-eyed looks of the renders.
