But I guess the double edged sword with a small fanbase is that people are so happy to have *any* kind of adaptation - even if it's bad - so they're much more forgiving of its faults.

The difference though is that Monster Hunter is a huge franchise, so you'll inevitably get a lot of people who still love the movie even if it's a subpar/bad adaptation.

Ys is a small niche fanbase. If you alienate them, you are left with no one else interested in your adaptation.

It's wild to me that someone would be given a *financial incentive* to play the entire Ys series so that they could write a great adaptation of the game that is essentially the culmination of the entire series up to that point and then just...not do it.
