Landlords cried that new tenant protections would hurt housing development in Portland, ME. @strim.bsky.social shows that hasn't been true. In fact, over the last five years development has increased since their implementation.

Today we mourn the loss of a great community organizer and an icon of the civil rights movement.
Jackson's Rainbow Coalition was one of the few bright spots for left-wing politics in the 1980's and showed that there was an appetite for socialist politics and organizing in the Unites States.
We are proud to endorse No ICE for Maine and the amazing work they've done bringing together Mainers in order to observe and record the actions of ICE across the state. 👏

It’s undeniable, more and more working class people are waking up to the extreme inequalities and injustices around us.
More and more are realizing that we aren’t powerless. When we strategize, decide, and work together, we can make serious positive change.

Saturday, November 15th, roughly 125 people attended the first ever Maine Solidarity Conference in Lewiston, hosted by Maine DSA. The purpose was to bring together folks from union leadership, mutual aid groups, and activist organizations to share and learn from each other.

On Sept 2, 1945, the Vietnamese declared their independence. Hồ Chí Minh referenced the US Declaration.
“All men are created equal; they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights..”
The US then went on to wage a senseless war.
Let us acknowledge the right of self determination.

They hate that it serves as a mirror for the struggles against injustices that stand before us today, and that liberation from those injustices are possible.
But this is why it's so important to celebrate. Remember that change and liberation are possible. Happy Juneteenth to you and yours!
Some conservatives hate that it's a federal holiday, they claim it's part of a "woke" mindset. But deep down they hate what it represents: a people, still oppressed in many ways, celebrating their freedom and inviting the nation to celebrate with them, forcing us to reckon with a troubled past.
This took place over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation and two months after the end of the war. It celebrates the material end of slavery, but is also a reminder that no struggle is over just because some legislation gets passed. It's over when we eradicate the injustice materially.
Happy Juneteenth! Why do we celebrate this important holiday, and why do some conservatives hate that we do?
On June 19, 1865, the Union Army finally took control of Texas, the last bastion of Confederate holdouts. They enforced the liberation of all slaves, over 250,000 left in the state.
