I remember at work about 8 years ago, I was talking to heads of our division about how we should ensure we have gender neutral toilets in our office. He said something along the lines of "what would the papers say". I was not impressed. Replied "we should be proud about being inclusive of others".

Diversity jn AI starts with who's involved in training and labelling the data. It's about who's in the room when the data is being built. You need cultural representation at the creation stage. If you don't consult the people with lived experiences then AI will miss them. Abran Maldonado

One reflection that I personally have as someone with an intersection of different minority groups in the UK is that diverse representation is good, but doesn't automatically lead to inclusive products.
