It's been a busy week & I've travelled nearly 800 miles, delivered 3 training sessions to farmers and DEFRA staff, had 2 client meetings and delivered a lecture to BSc Agriculture students. I've stopped in 2 hotels, enjoyed the music of 20 amateur folk musicians & taken one photo! Hope you like it!
After a busy day, on Wednesday, I found myself back in Nottinghamshire, ready to deliver the second session in my Finance for Farmers course. It was a deep dive into using Gross Margins, this week. Next weeks session will be all about understanding and using Annual Accounts.

This may not be the finest piece of hedge laying but it’s my piece of hedge laying! There’s something very calming about practicing a skill that one learnt over 4 decades ago. It calms the mind and distracts me from the worries of the World. It’s well worth the investment of time

It was a cold, wet day, yesterday where I was leading a one day training course about #IFM with @LEAF_Farming for farmers supplying #OilSeedRape #OSR for @Hellmanssauce They’re collaborating with @FrontierAg and @Unilever to ensure it’s grown as sustainably as possible.
I’m back home after a fantastic day delivering training, on behalf of @the_allertonproject, to staff from @ruralpay, @defrauk, @naturalengland staff, supported by the hosts, The Holliday family at Dobcross Hall in Cumbria. Great hosts, great weather, great feedback!

I recently had the chance to brush up on my First Aid training. Farming has the worst record for workplace injuries & deaths of any sector so I thought I should be properly prepared. Would you be confident to administer CPR or apply a tourniquet to save a colleague or family members life?

It was lovely to meet up with Milly Fyfe, for a much needed ☕️ in @thecountrysidekitchen_ As usual, she’s full of ambition & ideas but who knew she’s become a retailer, too? Lots of homegrown meat and eggs as well as local produce in the shop!

I had a great day with James Thompson and Natalie Elms, judging the Notts FWAG award. 3 very worthy finalists in David Rose, John Charles-Jones & Adrian Baugh which made for some tough conversations amongst the three judges. The winner will be announced in a few days. Until then my lips are sealed!
One of the challenges of being self employed is keeping up with CPD. I recently spent 3 days on a course entitled "Creating Engaging Videos for Marketing" at Nottm Trent Uni. I'm hoping to improve the quality of my social media so feel free to comment with constructive advice if you think I need it!
The 2025 @Groundswellaguk festival didn't disappoint! My first time exhibiting was well received and I met dozens of people, made new friends and, hopefully, built relationships with some new clients. Not to mention the great street food, beers and ciders which helped too! What a great event!
