🚨 Brilliant news - The deadline for abstract submission for the second Symposium on Toarcian Palaeobiology has now been extended until 30th April!

Please send abstracts of less than 250 words to events@geocollections.org stating an oral or poster presentation. The deadline for abstract submission is July 31st 2026.
The meeting will be held at the Manchester Museum on November 18th 2026, with a field trip and collection tours on November 19th.
This GCG Winter Seminar will serve as a 'call to arms' for those in our community to present on and discuss the public and scientific benefits of our collections. We are seeking presentations that demonstrate the value of collections, and case studies of when advocacy has, or hasn't, been effective.
Despite their clear public popularity, the future of geological collections, as well as that of the people and institutions who care for them, feels constantly under threat.

What a superb day yesterday. As part of @originalgcg.bsky.social annual seminar, I went walking in the footprints of giants - mainly Iguanadonts. Between Pett Level beach & Fairlight Cove, I observed dinosaur trackways, tail marks, bone beds, fossil wood and ripples ⚒️🪨🦕 @derbyuni.bsky.social
Yesterday I attended the annual seminar of the Geological Collections Group @originalgcg.bsky.social to learn about putting our collections to work. I presented a poster on @derbyuni.bsky.social collection: emphasis on our unique holistic approach to making our specimens accessible to students.
