Chart showing that in 2015 there were an estimated 64,000 journalists, newspaper and periodical editors working in the UK. The average salary in 2014 was £31,980, compared to UK average in all jobs of £27,195

Doing research for a feature on job longevity and quite enjoying this utopian prediction from 2015 that journalists are "quite unlikely" to have our jobs taken by robots :) :) :)

The only responsibility I feel right now, along with many others in Germany, is to keep bookmarking moments like this, so that people here don't turn around and tell the rest of the world "we had no idea what was happening". They know. Everyone knows. At best - at best - they don't want to see it.

you see dubious political chicanery, I see admirable proof that the Met doesn't discriminate when it comes to its abject failure to investigate phone theft, even if the phone in question was being used to run the government

For reasons that are both obvious and beyond me, America by Razorlight puts me in a true rage. There's something about the chord progressions (to say nothing of the singing) that actually makes my chest seize up. Abominable

I'm changing roles so we're hiring a lifestyle and consumer health writer on the features desk.

AKA, a FULL TIME STAFF WRITER ROLE at a UK paper is available. Sadly rare as hen's teeth. Recommend this as a great stable workplace where I have learned heaps.

St Brigid of Kildare is one of three national saints of Ireland. She is the patroness of poetry, learning, healing and protection, among other things, and, through medieval hagiographies, is known for performing miracles.

One of the miracles performed by St Brigid was Ireland’s first abortion. In 650 AD, Cogitosus told the story of St Brigid using the strength of her faith to perform an abortion that restores virtue to a nun:

“A certain woman who had taken the vow of chastity fell, through youthful desire of pleasure and her womb swelled with child. Brigid, exercising the most potent strength of her ineffable faith, blessed her, causing the child to disappear, without coming to birth, and without pain.”

It is St. Patrick's Day and rather than celebrate patriarchy and green beer, I invite you to celebrate St. Brigid, the saint who demonstrated God's goodness by giving abortions

Fern Brady wearing a camera helmet on Taskmaster and opening the task, which has a red wax seal, and reading the contents. She has a purple set of coveralls on as well, which is just fun.

I don't know anything about oil/the oil markets/the oil trade (be warned: I am not asking you to explain these things to me) so would say my life online right now is "child of probably divorcing parents senses that maybe the vibes are becoming increasingly off at home?"

I'm a tolerant woman and I don't generally rail against the language morphing and changing, but please, in Britain we say "poo". Not the awful American "poop". Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

It’s actually a great political moment that Hannah Spencer apologised in her speech to clients whose pipes she now won’t be able to fix.

Great to see the Conservatives wanting to reform student loans. Would like to see an account for Osborne replacing maintenance grants with loans in 2015. This has left poorer students with bigger debts vs richer ones for a whole decade, compounding inequality between rich and poor. It’s scandalous.

Chapter 1 of Moby Dick, page 1

The phrase ‘Call me Ishmael’, the first sentence of the book, is highlighted in blue, with careful highlighting on the very big C at the start. Above this, written in ballpoint pen ‘His name’

Prince Andrew's Arrest Across the pond in Britain, justice and accountability is a serious matter

Never in a million years did I ever fathom when I resurrected the Epstein story in 2018 that it would lead to first arrest of a British Royal in four centuries. Not since King Charles I was arrested in 1647.

Holy shit! That’s my professional analysis. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor becomes the first senior royal in modern history to be arrested. Police have raided the Royal Family's Sandringham estate. Holy shit!
