yesterday a friend & i saw a wax cylinder being played by an original wax cylinder player. InfoAge, Wall NJ - this place has a bunch of small museums on computers, audio technologies, radio and communications, model trains etc. and nearby is the site of the first transatlantic radio broadcast.

above 45 to be clear. two at 70 would solve everything with ease.

we have two household incomes a bit above that with two young kids and a car and a mortgage and putting the most we can into retirement savings - that would not be enough to sustain us perpetually. i can see how a couple of those things are a choice but still. that's where the money goes.

how are you listening to what i am saying. an hour ago i was singing this song in my kitchen. specifically the Futureheads version. my phone wasn't even in the room. advertising has gotten too invasive. i am disconnecting my internet

just looked, it was 2018

yep. download your media, back it up in two physical locations and on a cloud service (as a last resort) and migrate it every few years.

personally i'm no more concerned about what the Chinese government could be collecting than what i know US private industry is currently collecting

yes! we just got a hand-me-down laserjet printer for free and ... windows can no longer use it. linux is fine though.

exactly that yep

I'm actually a little surprised that it was people manually reading these. It seemed like the result of ctrl+f. IIRC Ted Cruz had a staffer look for "trans" and proposed canceling research where trans just means between/across in compound words.

BOOKMARK IT!

philly music fans - i'm looking to shift away from Meta and info about shows is one of two things keeping me there. are there alternatives out there to playinpossum.org or does anyone know the status of that site?

White Supremacists Protest Zohran - Counter Protest gets ugly
White Supremacists Protest Zohran - Counter Protest gets ugly YouTube video by Walter Masterson

at 9:48 in this video I'm fairly sure that's him, alongside the anti-nazi protesters. so probably trolling. youtu.be/iV2QKd6bgAM

how is this surprising when he has cornered the markets of music that may be played in airports, films, a white cube, the state museum in St Petersburg, and a civic recovery center?

"all available data" is doing a lot there. i don't require people around me to learn my language. maybe i can learn theirs. i already don't talk to most people.

their explicit goal is Christian nationalism. it is unnecessary and endless but it is also consistent with their goal.

personally very much looking forward to this song tonight in Philly (if the snow starting shortly after the show doesn't shut it down)

Past the breaking point The violent occupation of an American city is more than a warning

that thread led me to this excellent summary of recent escalations. taking it all in at once is ... a lot. every week is a new horror worse than the previous.

him not being in control of specific institutions hasn't done anything to his success at decimating them. personally I've been expecting there to be talk of canceling elections and this is not surprising.

last time he asked someone to "find" votes for him, and got in trouble. this time he's not even getting stopped when a court mandates it. the epstein files are late beyond the law and there's no apparent consequences. maybe the midterms come and go but i have little hope for November 2028.

i wish, as you do, that capitalist techbros hadn't turned this interesting technology resulting from 70 years of innovation and turned it into an art killer.

3 months ago 0 0 0 0

okay but the technology of 2019 still exists today. i fully agree with what this policy is about.

i only wrote this because i have a memory of getting caught up in Bandcamp's ban on harsh noise wall when they thought that was a fascist genre based on a subset of musicians.

my sense is they must have been doing it already, because AI generated music must be constantly being submitted to their platform.

3 months ago 0 0 0 0

and to be clearer this is 2019, before the billions, when the technology was still predominantly a research tool, and i have no other examples to point to.

i don't wanna distract from how good it is to see Bandcamp take this stance. i fully agree with it.
