The outer boroughs in particular suffer here. I live in Astoria and our sidewalks are so narrow! They could eliminate pinch points just by moving street tree planting to parking spaces.

Terrible idea. Business owners – capitalists! – don’t need rent control. Giving it to them is a great way to ensure our streets are full of a bunch of past-their-prime businesses stocking a bunch of crap that nobody wants.
