I gave up and tried one of those prepared meal companies. Can't really afford it long term, but I've actually been eating better/wasting less.

C'mon now, have a little understanding and empathy. What happened was horrific and the situation in the US is terrifying, but it's the fault of an overworked and understaffed system. Ask yourself why one person alone was left to juggle so nany high priority, high risk tasks.

Why not make better use of the space, provide housing, and offset costs all in one. I had this thought awhile ago when thinking about how new transit terminals were designed/built here and a totally unfair comparison to rail and metro companies that actually make money off real estate holdings.

Yeah, we definitely need to see more of this. I'd really like to see this kind of thought process exercised with any new municipal buildings going forward. There are obviously some cases where it just wouldn't work, but low rise, single use buildings seem like such a waste.

If I had to guess it'll probably be merged with the lot nextdoor where the restaurant burned down last year and it'll be another mixed use midrise like everything else going up on Quinpool. Better use of the space, at least.

Two pickup trucks parked side-by-side; an older model and a newer model that's almost twice the size as a real visual demonstration of car bloat.

The problem is that those 'work trucks' are also vanity trucks.... Car bloat is a thing.

Eh, they both have their problems. Let's not pretend otherwise. Weed is increasingly linked to long term mental health and dependency issues, especially in younger people. It's still an intoxicant, and the narrative that it's 'better' than drinking leads to people doing unsafe things.

So the US needs to do the work and make substantive improvements to the system, or spend the decades it'll take to rebuild the trust and goodwill through stable governance.

Yeah, no. The problem goes beyond the individual. The problem is the system that allows such individuals to be elected and do the things they do. As long as the systemic problems remain there's every chance and ab ever increasing likelihood that it will happen again.

It can be phased in regionally. The Maritimes would be relatively easy given the light freight schedule and relatively short distances. It's also some of the most neglected infrastructure for the same reasons.

It doesn't have to be a zero sum proposition. They can share but things CAN be made better for Via and passenger rail by tightening standards on the design and maintenance of infrastructure and prioritizing passengers over freight.

Probably more of an appetite for it than you'd think. At least in the HRM. On a related note, I'd love to have a good, local Japanese curry option.

This particular issue predates DOGE, but they certainly did their best to make it worse.

I think we can expand that to most social media sites... Or web 2.0 and beyond... Social media peaked with forums. (Kidding. Kinda)

Beyond that, the Bay space will probably be divided into smaller spaces and the bookstore could move into the mall proper. Purely speculation and dimly remembered rumours from when the Zellers/Target space was redeveloped.

There appears to be a cluster of towers on the Indigo/Veterinary Hospital site. That said, that's one of the later phases, I think, and earlier phases will be adding new commercial spaces in the tower podiums before existing buildings are demolished, which will likely be many years out.

*Largely negates the need.

We don't know. 'Big' does not mean expensive. 'New' can, but that changes with time. Living within walking and transit range of just about everything largely the need for a private automobile and related expenses. Beyond that there's already one office building on site, and the plans include more.

Zellers was okay-ish if all you needed was shelf stable stuff. Target had refrigerated stuff for its very short life here. But yeah, even the relatively small IGA was better. Maybe we could tempt Metro into an eastward expansion.

I live in Halifax but work next to the mall, and commute by bus.
Outside of the usual bridge choke points, it's usually pretty painless to get back and forth from the peninsula. Can't speak for parts further out, though. I'm all for more options, better service, and improved infrastructure.

Tell me about it. I work at the Bluenose building so have to hike through the parking lot twice a day most days. Construction and poor sidewalk access make it preferable to get off the bus at the mall terminal.
