Thanks for early coverage of data center energy consumption. There’s a deeper parallel problem of the lifecycle environmental costs of infrastructure, short lifespan and frequent turnover of hardware and electronics.

Planetary Boundaries Science (PBScience) Lab The PBScience Lab addresses critical gaps in our understanding and monitoring of the biophysical systems that are essential to life on Earth.

After years of American leadership, the center of Whole Earth, and Earth Systems sciences is now the Baltic states, in Potsdam, Stockholm, and Copenhagen:

Trump’s “national security” wind farm freeze? Total sham! Europe’s 30GW offshore giants coexist flawlessly with military radars via software tweaks & curtailments—zero threats. US DoD greenlit 1,000s onshore. Pure political posturing, not necessity!

“Computational modeling does not merely visualize climate futures; it enables societies to build planetary imaginaries…. If the epistemic category of the planetary collapses under geopolitical pressure, we do not simply lose a tool. We lose a worldview, and with it, a horizon of action.”

Animal niches in the airspace For flying animals, including many birds, bats, and insects, the air is a crucial arena for a range of behaviors. Technological advances, such as year-round tracking of flight altitudes and expanded use of radar, increasingly show how flying animals use the aerial habitat. This enables us to answer questions about the environmental patterns and ecological processes that shape aerial niches, including energetics, biotic interactions, and risk due to growing anthropogenic conflicts. In this review, we identify environmental conditions and biological interactions influencing where animals occur in the airspace throughout their life cycles. We outline an ecological framework to advance understanding of how different properties of the airspace shape fundamental aerial habitat niches and how biotic interactions influence the realized niches.

85 climate scientists refute Trump administration report downplaying climate change A group of 85 climate scientists released a review Tuesday refuting a Trump administration report that downplays climate change and its impacts. The review comes as public comment is being mad...

“Attribution of climate change is challenged by natural climate variability, data limitations, and model deficiencies.”

🧐That's how the Trump administration downplayed the link between human activity & climate change.

📢 Climate experts pushed back with facts.
