Good blog from @lowtraffichackney.bsky.social setting out why councils should use parking controls as a tool to limit car use and so reduce traffic congestion, and road danger making streets more inclusive, safe and convenient for everyone.

Love this. Parked cars cramming streets on both sides makes getting around Hackney very grueling, even for drivers. One day they'll realise the cyclist coming the other way isn't the problem...

We need to go back to basics on the equality of street space. Stop thinking only about the inconvenience of every change and start thinking about the fundamental unfairness of how things are right now.

Census data showing 57.5% of Albert St residents do not have a car.

This one always blows my mind. 60% of residents ON THIS STREET do not have a car.

The road is so narrow, we are harassed by impatient drivers every time.

Selfishness by the 40%.

It is absolutely critical that the planned Hoxton East LTN is expanded to stop through-traffic on Whitemore Rd / Debeauvoir Rd. It is fundamentally not safe to mix such high motor traffic & cycle flows.

Great myth-busting blog post 👇

Includes key point "...where LTNs are implemented is a matter of policy that is largely separate from whether or not they work. If LTNs are only implemented in rich areas, they will be unfair. This is an argument for ensuring fairly implemented LTNs, not no LTNs."

Useful blog from @lowtraffichackney.bsky.social talking through some of the many reasons that councils that want to address social inequality and that care about reducing road danger use low traffic networks of streets.

They haven’t! If you count depreciation the costs are far higher. And also the assumed £613 for mot service and repairs is hopelessly optimistic for a cheap old car. And for a half decent reliable one you need minimum £5k+ to buy & to afford the depreciation.
