For families dealing with what Sasha’s family endured, 28 days was simply not enough time to process or act given the unimaginable loss. This change gives them the space to process and seek justice properly.

The new law extends the time limit to appeal unduly lenient sentences from 28 days to six months, and introduces a duty to ensure victims’ families are clearly informed of their right to do so.

After experiencing how difficult it was to navigate the justice system while grieving, Katie has worked tirelessly to push for change so other families are better supported.

As of last night, Sasha’s Law has passed. This much awaited change of law follows the campaign led by Katie Brett in memory of her sister, Sasha Marsden, who was tragically murdered in 2013.

Blackpool and the Fylde College will be the only DTEC in the North West, placing our area at the heart of the region’s defence skills pipeline and helping ensure that young people here are directly connected to some of the best opportunities in a high-skilled sector.
Blackpool and the Fylde College is to receive over £2.6 million to provide major upgrades as part of Labour’s commitment to repair and maintain colleges across England.
Additionally, the mainstream system will look and feel radically different – providing the right support locally, early, effectively and fairly, with every child’s needs met without a fight.

Labour is reforming the school system so young people with SEND get the right support earlier and closer to home. In my constituency casework, I’ve seen the anxiety families face when they are told their child may have to travel long distances to attend a suitable school.

Happy Easter Sunday! 🐣🐰
As we gather with our loved ones today, let us take a moment to reflect on the joy of family and the spirit of goodwill that this special day brings. Easter is a time for hope, renewal, and coming together to celebrate the blessings in our lives.
A raft of new measures introduced by the Labour government – coming into force today – will see wages go up, bills come down, and more support for those who need it most in Blackpool.
Throughout March, I’ve been making sure Blackpool South’s voice is heard in Westminster – asking questions and delivering speeches focused on the cost of living, helping residents into work, and backing a strong local economy. 🗣️
Blackpool Jobs Fair was praised by Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden amid national concern about nearly 1 million young people not in education, employment or training.
I asked if he agreed that this approach could be a game changer for towns like Blackpool. 🗼
@lancspcc.bsky.social Clive Grunshaw kindly gave me £50,000 from proceeds of crime to distribute to our communities.

Yesterday I met with Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy to discuss the exciting news that Blackpool has been long listed for City of Culture 2029 and made the case to her for why Blackpool is undoubtedly the best choice. 🗼

When we talk about tourism policy in Westminster, I’m talking about Blackpool residents’ jobs, businesses and the future of our town itself. 🎢

5,000 people walked through the doors of Blackpool Jobs Fair 2026. 💼
With around 120 exhibitors set up to offer around 2,000 jobs between them. By the end of the day, more than 1,000 roles had been secured!
The Secretary of State @patmcfaddenmp.bsky.social has agreed to open the event hot off the news that his department is launching a new mobile jobs centre service in our town to break down the barriers that stop people finding good work.
Great British Energy has installed new solar arrays at Blackpool Gateway Academy, Marton Primary Academy, & Nursery.
These savings will enable both schools to reinvest directly in education for pupils by improving facilities, investing in resources, or supporting day-to-day operations.
I’ve hit the ground running for 2026 by asking 10 questions in Parliament throughout January, taking the issues and concerns raised by Blackpool residents straight to Parliament and pressing ministers, chancellors and secretaries of state to deliver the support our town deserves. 🗼

Blackpool faces serious housing shortages. While the Council has made real progress in building new homes, there is still more to be done.
I asked the Secretary of State what can be done so that we can build the social housing we desperately need & meet the £1.5 million target.
I look forward to working more with the minister to endure the voices of MPs and their constituents from tourist towns like ours.
The minister outlined the government’s priorities for tourism and members were able to put their questions and concerns to her. The meeting touched on a variety of issues including visitor levy, business rates, transport and connectivity.
This month in my role as chair for the APPG for Hospitality and Tourism I welcomed the Minister for Tourism, Stephanie Peacock MP (left) to speak with MPs from across the House and industry representative including Kate Nicholls, chair of UKHospitality (right).

Blackpool and The Fylde College offers excellent courses that equip young people with the skills to work with the vital renewable energy equipment we need for the future.
I asked the Secretary of State to meet me to discuss how we can create those jobs right here in Blackpool?
