My grandfather was one of the first Jewish men arrested on the streets of Vienna by the Nazis after the Anschluss. He was imprisoned in Dachau and Buchenwald. These are concentration camps. No question.

Here's an angle on CASA I don't get: If Kavanaugh believes what he's saying -- that some major actions require a uniform nationwide SCOTUS preliminary ruling sooner rather than later -- shouldn't the Ct have expanded the question presented by the SG to address the merits, even on a stay posture?

Multiple Little Lobbyists families traveled to Washington, D.C., from across the country (Maggie and David traveled all the way from Alaska!) to deliver a simple message to their U.S. Senators:

DO NOT CUT A SINGLE DIME OFF #Medicaid!

Scientists discover potential new targets for Alzheimer’s drugs Using a computational strategy that allows them to combine information from many large datasets, MIT researchers have identified several new potential targets for Alzheimer’s disease.

Fantastic Alzheimer's research from MIT & Harvard. Funded by NIH. But wait, this is precisely the type of non-amyloid research that RFK told the Senate yesterday does not exist! Congress must overturn his outrageous NIH cuts for FY 25 & 26. #endalz

If one of these is your member of Congress, they just voted for a budget that could lead to 40 million Americans losing health coverage — to give a tax cut to the wealthy. Tell your representative: HANDS OFF MEDICAID!@housedemocrats.bsky.social @capaction.bsky.social #medicaid #congress #Republicans

"What do Medicaid dollars do? They save lives! This is our son, [redacted], fighting for his life in the ICU. Last night in the ER we weren't sure he was going to make it. Thanks to great care and MEDICAID, he is stable and we are optimistic that he will get thru this. How dare anyone think of risking his life to pay for tax cuts!" Below the words is a picture of my brother lying in a hospital bed on a ventilator.

Reposting my mom's post on Medicaid and the last couple days our family has dealt with.

The Rewriting of a Pioneering Female Astronomer’s Legacy Shows How Far Trump’s DEI Purge Will Go The federal webpage for an observatory named for the late astronomer Vera Rubin was edited to omit any recognition of the fact that science remains a male-dominated field or that the observatory was w...

Trump 2.0 is taking down entire websites in its attempt to memory hole efforts to bring diversity & equity to the government workforce.

This piece from @lisalsong.bsky.social shows how the Trump's anti-DEI purge is also making more targeted excisions of important historical facts & context:

On RFK Jr., vaccines and my son with autism and Down syndrome Knowledge is the vaccine for ignorance and fear. But RFK Jr. just wants to let the fever burn.

This pleases me (gift):

"I had only one advantage: I’m a historian. One of the true gifts of studying the humanities is not the content we learn in school, but that we develop the skills to learn what we need to know when life takes unexpected turns. So like a proper nerd, I made a reading list."
