Yes, at the time I thought all my lecturers were pompous and full of themselves, but when I now see the most morally reprehensible shit made with AI put out into the world… yeah, no. The act of creation needs to be burdened.

Like yes, on a basic level you should design things that are accessible, but more than that, what you make has impacts on culture and society. The way you move about the world was designed by someone. What you eat, how it was grown, even the utensils you use, is all societal design in practice.

But you know what it is? It’s that I went to college knowing design skills, but my professors made me a designer. They spent an obscene amount of time forcing us to learn ethics and sociology. Our mission statement was that everything is inherently design and the responsibilities that implies.

It took me a long time to really put my finger on what was pissing me off about Canva at first, and now AI, aside from the obvious. I refused to believe it was elitism, that I was a hater who disliked others having easy access to my “trade” because I knew that wasn’t true.

Imagine being shitty to me and then I just never speak to you again for the rest of my life? More likely than you think.
