Buy Now...Pain Later? Millions of people have used a buy now pay later product in the last year - but the customer journey needs to be better designed to protect people from harm and stop people from slipping into problems

A report I wrote in 2021 about “slippery” design might be loosely relevant here. Companies take advantage of a lack of regulation so you slip into decisions that you don’t *really* intend to, because friction is built in to make it easier than opting out www.citizensadvice.org.uk/policy/publi...

"AI is coming, its inevitable" no its not you sniveling weirdo. how are those 3D TVs going. how are NFT markets looking these days. Seen anything cool in the metaverse lately?

anyone who says we need to resign to using it, that itll be here whether we like it or not, is a feckless dipshit.

Another absolutely terrifying day to live on TERF Island, the place that has now enshrined in law that little girls are made of sugar and spice and everything nice. I feel like I am going to vomit.

if you are a cis person it costs you nothing to just say today that you see & hear your trans sisters & brothers & others over in the UK today -- and around the world, too, knowing that rulings like today's ripple out in ugly ways.

All this money & energy spent to make life more miserable for trans people could've been used to fight against domestic violence, wage disparity, sexual harassment, harassment of people accessing abortion services, proper childcare provision; you know, to make the world a better place instead.

Absolutely hate “we went too far” revisionist history. “We all believed women and it went too far.” No we did not all believe women. I was there

fascinated by a rhetorical strategy i see all the time now, which is making up an extreme edge case to argue against doing anything for the public good, and doing this from the putative left.

South Asians have a long history as part of the British working class A rich heritage of grassroots organisation, from the Indian Workers’ Association to the Grunwick dispute, should be celebrated

The working class in Britain is multiracial and multifaith but very rarely is class discussed in these terms. My latest column on the struggles of the South Asian working class — past and present.

You know who hasn't had this degree of media support for their financial interests? Disabled people, poor people with more than two kids, public sector workers (after all that clapping for the NHS). I'm not usually a 'blame the media' person but seriously - this is mad

To clarify, I never said these are the ONLY historians in Britain in my starter packs. They are just meant to be a helpful tool for people to reconnect. I've even asked people to give me a shout if they want to be added. Hardly gatekeeping.

anyway, something something remains to be seen if bluesky will be the exodus equivalent of dreamwidth, or what Ao3 is to both ff . net and LJ. or, if there’ll be a total sea change like deviantart never /really/ being replaced by a standalone site and instead absorbed into others like ig

I was introduced to LJ relatively late and young (shortly after turning 13 in 2007), but can’t imagine the ensuing years being the same without ONTD, sf_drama, various anon memes, postsecret/fandomsecrets, the legomymalfoy saga etc as a precursor shaping tumblr and twitter

Don’t know if it’s because of the circles I travel in, but kind of wild how there’s so much talk of dead internet and what it was like pre-social media and yet livejournal is almost never mentioned despite being pretty fundamental in shaping fandom and social justice oriented spaces
