Not that it will end up Souls-like or even in the mold of other recent action-RPGs, but a stylistic successor to their hardest '80s games under the Dragon Slayer brand could go many places. We can only hope it turns out well. I'd love to play a Xanadu Next sequel/spinoff in my lifetime after all...

Advanced Dogiemon, a brief write-up on a doujin Ys tribute game, where you play as Dogi the wall-crusher as he rescues a kidnapped Adol. Also includes a download link to the PC88 game so you can play it yourself! www.hardcoregaming101.net/advanced-dog...
I'm generally on break from social media, but you can always reach me here. My goal this year is to restart what I was doing on Xitter years ago, now on YouTube and a Neocities site, with Bluesky as outreach.
Check this: AFAICT undumped Usagi na Panic EX - a CD compilation that includes 1 + 2 (presumably identical to disk versions, but who knows?) plus a Takarabako extra (presumably undumped). Only copy I've ever seen pop up :^) #PC98

Make sure your RPG battle transitions, scene composition, and attack animations are at least as cool as this Taiwanese DOS RPG from 1995
Bent and I translated the Sword World PC (PC-98) video game and are in the process of fixing issues with the help of testers. If you're interested, check out the post! It is a JRPG based on a Sword World RPG (1.0) TTRPG, released in 1992. www.reddit.com/r/SwordWorld...

Design sketches for Adol and Lilia from Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys. Drawn by Yukitoshi Hotani (宝谷 幸稔).
Found these really cute design sketches for Adol and Lilia from Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys. These were drawn by the game's illustrator, Yukitoshi Hotani, and were sourced from the September 1993 issue of Dengeki PC Engine.

The latest issue of Read Only Memo is about a new, really easy to use made-from-scratch server system for playing a ton of Dreamcast games online. In 2025! ChuChu Rocket will never die:
Another interview posted on my website: this one is with Bob Leedom, author of Super Star Trek, KIM-Venture and KIM Baseball! Plus some bonus correspondence with David Ahl about Super Star Trek, a game near and dear to me. www.atariarchive.org/an-interview...

New blog post time!
This week's game is Puzzle Kana?, a PC-88 doujin Sokoban game with a twist or two to offer. Not only are you pushing plenty of blocks, you're pushing balls into holes too! Cute intermissions break things up nicely as well.
And yes, the question mark is part of the game's title:
One part puzzle game, one part RPG, and a whole lot of fun - let's take a look at Sabnack, Kogado's fantastic PC-98 game!

The PC Engine's first strategy game was Gaia no Monshou which was also the first PC Engine game by Masaya. Gaia no Monshou is a bit of a bridge between classic wargames and strategy RPGs and it's follow-up was Langrisser, one of the biggest strategy game franchises of the 90s.

Argh what in the world! I was also chatting with Mr. Picq recently about his work, both past and upcoming. He’d reached out after I reviewed the first Dune game and brought up his remaster. The guy was so excited about composing and creating still… RIP to a real one gone too soon 😞
Oh cool a visual novel for the 3DS got translated. Writer worked on 428 Shibuya Scramble and 999 fantranslators.info/2025/02/01/t...
So, I still need a job. I've been unemployed for almost two years now, and I can only sell so many of my video games to cover bills before I run out of games.
Who's looking to hire a writer? Fiction, non-fiction, UI text, proofreading; I'll work within any limitations you have. I am inexpensive.
All of us watching The Phantom Menace back in 1999: "Why does any of this matter? Who gives a shit about the taxation of trade routes?!" George Lucas in February 2025:
A colored illustration of Link from the original Legend of Zelda. He has red hair, blue eyes, his hand is on his sword, and he has cool, but simple, chest armor that mainly just covers one side and should.
I'm currently scanning & cleaning up the amazing art in the incredible Hyrule Fantasy guide by Soft Bank|Beep. Mases of @zeldadungeon.bsky.social already has really good scans of the #Zelda section: www.zeldadungeon.net/wiki/Soft_Ba... but I'm doing 2400dpi art & the whole guide as flat 600dpi

You ought to know Alvin C. Hollingsworth, one of the first Black comic book artists who got his start at the age of 12 as an inker on several Golden Age books before drawing several comic books of his own. He was also a notable fine artist who had his own NBC art series.
