An investigation into the fossil fuel industry’s role in anti-protest laws;
A profile of a Palestinian woman collecting climate-resilient heirloom seeds;
And a sprawling television series tackling the profound fight between saving the planet and growing our economies...
For every 1 degree Celsius of atmospheric heating, the air can hold approx. 7% more water vapour. This is a principle of physics (Clausius–Clapeyron equation) – warmer air has a greater capacity to hold moisture, leading to more intense rainfall and snowfall events during storms.
The Met Office is looking suggestions for 5 names for storms. Like with Boaty McBoatface but with more serious intent, thousands are right now suggesting: BigOil, BP, Equinor, Exxon, Shell. :-)

EXPRESSIVE writing gets the thumbs up from the scientific community – to date there's far too little evidence about the physical / mental benefits of CREATIVE writing – personal experience suggests huge benefits. It's where I work through so many of my current issues and concerns. What about you?
Need a bit of support to get into or back into your writing this summer? I've got some lovely friendly online writing groups running on Mondays – various time slots. Scan the QR code to find out more.
Change in our climate is accelerating but we are still embarking on multi-decade projects along vulnerable, rapidly eroding coasts. Are we thinking far enough into the future? I am not convinced that we are.

Vital piece of global research shows that 80–89% of humanity wants their governments to do more to combat climate change. How many of us are aware of that nearly all of us want the same thing? Spread the (important) word...

No it isn't. 80–89% of people all round the world want more action from their governments on climate change. Vital global research, showing the vast majority of humanity understands what is happening to our climate and want action. But the anti climate shouters get all the air time...

I've been working at a fast pace for several years now, finishing an MSc, a novel, writing paid commissions – it's been great, but now I'm near the end of it all, I see a slower, more reflective period on the horizon that I will greet with open arms...

Another important article from @dpcarrington.bsky.social I try to read this kind of information from as objective a stand point as possible (hard I know!) – emotional responses cloud our ability to approach this with solutions in our minds.

A really thoughtful and thought-provoking interview, thank you. Hope as a discipline – such an important concept.
Today's thought-piece explores an idea that is fundamental to my entire relationship with writing and to what I am writing (there is a difference). I invite you to apply the word change loosely and broadly to your own writing and to your relationship with your writing.

Listened to my first podcast by The Angry Clean Energy Guy @assaadrazzouk.bsky.social. It's brilliant on so many levels. I thoroughly recommend it.

Highly recommended interview with @robgmacfarlane.bsky.social on his book Is a River Alive? The need for us to change our relationship with the Earth sits at the heart of this important book. I can't wait to read it. It feels epoch-changing.

My inspiration for today's post came from an interesting, and very readable, piece by Anne-Laure Le Cunff writing in bigthinkmedia@substack.com. If you want to find out more about the neuroscience of curiosity I recommend it.
Thank you for writing this. It is very helpful.
Hmm that is a good question. I recently came across a concept that I found totally liberating. That is to rename your first draft the 'wild draft'. It completely changed my perspective from drudgery and critical awareness to FUN!
I so love this. Thank you.
Today's post is an invitation to reflect. There is no right or wrong answer, only an opportunity for awareness.
I was interested to see how differently this other writer and I experienced our writing, but however we started we ended up in a similar place, where writing was therapeutic.
When I was a child, I loved reading more than anything, but I never dreamed I would write. That was for 'other people'. When I look back, it seems to me that my beloved Schultz poster was prophetic – it took me another three decades to gather the courage to write. Be encouraged. Write!
This starts on 1 May so you still have time to sign up. What's stopping you? Take the plunge :-)
Support for your writing, and reasonably priced.
In large part I am writing today because I was accepted onto Escalator – an Arts Council mentoring scheme at National Centre for Writing. NCW do great things for writers.

Biography, creative non-fiction, a particular setting, believable characters – each of these have a relationship with the truth that may be worth unpicking. I felt challenged by what I heard from Mario Vargas Llosa – and you?
