Early 3D Pokemon renders by Keiji Kinebuchi from the late 1990s that got my brain wired up
One more, oop. Like I agree it's all drop in the bucket compared to the big bads, but still given the options, seems like poorly used funds that I'm not stoked for. "I'm glad it's not going to war chest" is something, but not much of a spirit lifter.
If we colonize the moon it won't be everyday people who get to escape., and the premise on need is based on our planet getting screwed, which is preventable and that funding would be valuable. For seeing outer space or w/e that seems like really expensive Birding when we have crisis at hand.
No doubt military bad, and bigger fish etc. I am just iffy of "the progress of humanity" of it cause If the progress is getting people to colonize the moon or how to look into deep space, both seem.. Unimportant materially compared to idk ag funding or more grounded (no pun intended) research. 1/2
And @jojotully.bsky.social, while not a big deal, I can't be excited/supportive for space travel personally. Any QoL boon seems inherently a boon to new military use and only loosely connected to improving working people's lives. Feels like an expensive hobby when the fridge is empty.

The alt text is fun but would be nice to have the real pkmn names on there for the low/no vision folks.
Enter the brutal world of Pokémon where mankind has found the perfect way to satiate its bloodlust while maintaining a civilized utopia by forgoing the idea of pitting man against man in a gladiatorial arena, instead throwing clearly sentient and intelligent beings to fight against each other for our amusement. I'm not that versed in the world of Pokémon and I refuse to read out the names clearly written in the UI of the game so I'll just make up names and you can make it a game and figure out their human-given names, that they're then trained and forced to repeat and speak out even though they probably have different names in their natural tongues. Here we see Pinkphibian doing a mean fire-breathing attack and accidentally lighting its tail on fire.
Here's Tortice, looking like an angy little turtle, spouting icy water at its unwilling opponent while the splodgy textured soup of people on the stands cheering to this bloodsport.
Frogfused is just a little green frog that looks confused, with big red question marks floating above its head.
Butterfright doing some kind of hypnotic flight dance, enveloping its opponent's vision with blue concentric waves, fluttering with its butterfly wings and looking deep into your soul with its frightening red eyes.

its never gonna be 1:1 with a different camera (and apparently a touch up on the first image), but I do wish they went up when they could get a full day shot.

I Work Very Hard, And I Would Like To Try Cake By A Horse Hello. I am a horse. I work very hard at my job of being a horse. When humans say move the heavy thing, I move the heavy thing. When humans sit on top of me and pull on my head, I carry them where they want to go. The main food the humans give me is hay and oats. But I am thinking it would be nice to have a different food. I am thinking I would like to try cake. Yes, yes. Cake. I know all about it. When humans eat cake, it is in glad times. It is the food for a celebration, such as when a woman becomes 47. I have seen cake on the Fourth of July. When humans have a cake, they stand around it and clap hands and smile and say happy birthday at each other. Sometimes there are beautiful markings on a cake, such as balloons or a pink shape. Sometimes the top of a cake is on fire and a boy must blow on the fire with mouth wind. This is the scariest cake. I do not want this kind. But I will eat any other cake. Any cake that is not the fire cake that tries to kill the boy. Please understand: I do not get money for doing work. I do not get to go inside the house. All I am either doing my horse job or standing in my pen or eating food off the floor. I always do these things. But I have never once gotten cake and I would like it very much. I have noticed that human children get to eat cake. But I am bigger than the children. I am more helpful to the farm. Children do not move the heavy things like me or let anyone ride on them. And yet they get cake. Maybe the humans will realize this. Maybe they will say, "You know who deserves cake? That horse. That horse whose back we are always on." Every day I dream about what it will be like if I get to eat cake. Here is what will happen. First, I will walk to the cake and putt my nose at it like hrrfff to make and stomping my hooves to make sure it is not a snake. Then I will trot in a circle to show that I am a horse and I am large. After that, I will nuzzle the cake to …
The horse op-ed is an instant classic. I can't tell you how much joy this piece gives me.
It should be taught in every introductory writing class in no small part because the horse arguments are so compelling. "I have noticed that human children get to eat cake. But I am bigger than the children."

James @GoodVibePolitik X.com A friend in Cuba just notified me that every single patient in that hospital that was on ventilators died tonight. I don't have words. James @GoodVibePolitik•4h There's something supremely saddening and enraging about seeing a hospital running on bare minimum power. Thinking about dialysis patients, babies in NICU, and others tonight in Cuba. This is a blockade of death. THE THE B
