Americans should prepare to hide these people in attics and basements, like Jews in World War II. We owe it to them.

The administration does not know what it wants, except that it expects to be able to shakedown everyone else to pay for its dumb misadventures.

Hoekstra and Lutnick are just guessing at what Trump is going to do. And Trump is just going to pick a random position.

The Stupid Cuban Missile Crisis Donald Trump is unfit for office. He might do genocide before Congress recognizes that.

Had anyone in a position of power during the Cuban Missile Crisis acted this stupidly, we’d all be dead. www.bugeyedandshameless.com/p/the-stupid...

Of course they are concentration camps. And @anatosaurus.bsky.social is right that once you accept the euphemism you are halfway to normalizing the thing.

Estimates show the 1918 flu epidemic killed about 45,000 US soldiers, about 38% of the total US military deaths in WWI. The flu and its secondary illnesses made up the majority of death by disease. Thousands (possibly as many as 36,000) died before making it from basic training to the battlefield.

The AI tools cannot do a human's job. But sometimes they can do the easiest, most enjoyable or low-stress parts of a human's job, so that all remains is the frustrating, difficult part... which is worse paid because "AI is doing some of it for you". Like that's a benefit for the worker. /fin

I wonder if flu has ever affected a war

Interesting place to start the process, given Kennetcook and the very obvious effect of gypsum mining on the landscape. 🤔 (Triangle was part of my rookie reporting year 07/08. My editor and I kept putting little briefs in the paper, wondering why no one was fussed. Times change!)

Canadian doctors obeying a U.S. executive order that doesn’t even apply to Canada is deeply offensive to both trans people and to Canadian legal sovereignty.

👏 Canada 👏 Post 👏 is 👏 a 👏 public 👏 service 👏

Nothing proves how capitalism has brain rotted everyone than thinking the post office, hospitals, public transit, libraries, etc. need to turn a profit to be worthwhile.

"Or risk a public backlash" is such a wild counterfactual to "be candid," as if there wouldn't be a public backlash if the entire global economy implodes due to mass unemployment at levels not seen since the Great Depression.

Perkins House in Liverpool expects $50,000 in provincial grant funding after budget cut in February | CBC News A community museum in Nova Scotia that faced closure just two months ago now has new life thanks to a provincial grant. Other museums are hoping for a similar outcome.

While it's nice that Perkins House received CMAP funding to stay open this summer, it means we're now using CMAP to try and fix big cuts when even that program was reduced by 50%. This means other small museums have less chance to get funded.

Places outside of the city have grown - at least within an hour’s drive. The rhetoric went from “we are dying out” to “overcrowded” in the Valley over the last 14 years. But cutting immigration, international students and making austerity budgets may change that.

Every Cyberpunk author: In my book I invented the concept of the evil tech megacorp as a cautionary tale.

Palantir: At long last, we have created the evil tech megacorp from every classic cyberpunk novel.

We learned all the wrong lessons from the pandemic. We should have learned that remote working was a very positive thing!

EU’s energy crisis response is broader than expected: remote work mandates, heat pump subsidies, EV leasing schemes — plus electrification targets and new laws to tax electricity below fossil fuels.
