Reno City Council approved a 14% franchise fee for Waste Management in a 4-3 vote to address a $24M budget gap. Residents will pay about $1.40 more per month starting in April. The vote follows a $2.25M legal settlement over commercial customer charges and years of audit and contract disputes.
When asked how they think news organizations should make money, 11% said through subscription or membership fees, while 45% said advertising and sponsorship.

Nevadans deserve a fair and impartial judicial branch. We'd get closer to getting one if we stop electing justices — most of whom voters know nothing about — and instead select them according to merit.
Fortunately, Nevada is already most of the way there.
