In this first week of open class, we are talking about fun ways to use a behavior before the reward in order to prevent the dog from thinking about moving forwards towards us.
Ginny is apparently a bit rusty in her reverse sends!

If I hear a person tell their dog once “no sniff “then I’ll be hearing it 100 more times.
Ginny found the environment at the UKI invitational tough. A ton of sniffing that I felt was both a mixture of stress, and also some opportunistic searching for the thousands of crumbs. #dogsports #agility
I realized I never got to training right pivots with Ravi before his food trial.
So we are using a toy, but he’s making it pretty easy for me! #dogsports #sighthound #dogtraining #heelwork
Ravioli is still working on fronts with his perch and how to think with a toy reward.
I can’t wait until we can train outside again! #Dogsports #obediencedog #rallyobedience #dogtraining
Does your dog love clapping? #dogsports #dogtraining #toller
Movement to stillness. Excitement to control. I love having this game as a foundation for my dogs.
Ginny is not a dog prone to “over arousal” butits a good game to do with her on the start line if she can’t do her happy boing right away. #dogsports #dogtraining
Ravioli didn’t want to mark his toy on the ground but putting it on the bucket made it look more like his cookie on a target
I was able to resume working on a tiny bit of lateral distance!
If you want marking for agility or obedience there’s still time to join class! #dogsports #agility
Loot finds fronts just so tough! Constantly going back to pivot foundations to help him. It’s the same foundations with the dumbbell as without! #dogsports #akcobedience #dogtraining
Loot loves to work while holding his toy. So comforting. It’s always a very expensive behavior to offer to drop his toy and mentally let go of it. And this, this is just pure flow and joy for him.

Today’s the day! Class has begun on teaching a focus forward cue!!!
As I’ve been sitting here watching the EOTT for Agility, I am struck by just how many of these start lines have benefited from that mark skill!
And Helo is just starting 😁 #dogsports #agility #dogtraining
I love using a cone for working position changes! It adds a layer of difficulty by adding motion into it. But is also much more fun!
And bonus that thinking about going around the cone makes it easier to prevent creeping towards me.
I mixed up all three positions with Ginny #dogsports #dogtraining
Wanting to learn a look forward cue for obedience or agility startline? 3 week class starting March 1st!
This was Helo’s first lesson. I wasn’t quite as coordinated as I hoped but we started! #dogsports #DogTraining #agility
First time having Helo stay in a few months! A bit rusty on toy play for me 😆 #puppytraining #dogsports
More work with Ravioli on learning do things while holding his dumbbell. So hard!

I did it!! Drop on recall with a cat! We got that down at a distance 😍 #cattraining #dogsports #dogtraining
Ravioli is learning foundations for heeling games! Do a movement release, then suck back into heel.
He was confused at first so I grabbed a prop.
Going from energy to precision is a core part of heeling! Join me in my online novice obedience class on now with FDSA! #dogsports #dogtraining
Brushing back up on Freya’s finish into heel! She can get stuck in cat mode sometimes 😄

Ravioli is working on heeling with his toy! I warm up with luring him to heel and working that pause after the toy release. I want him confident in waiting in heel position and not offering random movement or spinning out to look at me easier.
Then I start left squares #dogsports #dogtraining
Default standby! This is an important foundation for my dogs. It builds that routine of going out and coming right back. It teaches them to go from moving to stillness. To be patient! #dogsports #dogtraining #sighthound
Starting threadle wraps with Ravioli. This is when I thought I was going to change what arm I was using, but I’ve changed my mind again 😄
#dogsports #agility
continuing to work on Ravioli’s understanding of a retrieve and resilience with his dumbbell.
He already knows how to move with a db, and I’ve done the prerequisite in teaching him how to nose target the bucket. So now we’re starting cleanup trick! #dogtricks #dogsports
I’ll use this before going in a ring for Obed/rally, and a modified one for agility. also nice for delays in the ring or just needing to talk without getting the dog out of work mode. Going from full off-duty to ON can be a big ask for our non workaholic dogs!
Ring confidence class 2/1! #dogsports
Fronts are a great small space option!
I have faith that your dog can get it better than Freya. Commit to a month of improving a skill that shows up multiple times on every rally course. #dogtraining #dogsport #cattraining
Starting box feeding with Raviol to learn a “sticky target”
The lowered head is also my prerequisite for the skill of “cleanup” or put the thing in the thing. I want the dog targeting the bucket and not flinging
#DogTraining #dogsports #dogtricks
Trying to post something happy.
So here is Ginny with a pop stand on recall. She wants to pop about 6 feet forward! I’m using a target not to help her respond to my cue, but to try and get her to pop more up and not so much flight!
#dogsports #dogtraining #toller
Working fronts and struggling to fade a platform? I struggle with that too!
I teach pivots in front bc it transfers so easily from a perch to none.
I talk about front pivots in my novice class! Working spots still available, and we can look at your heel work too
#dogsports #dogtraining
More work on listening to his cues with a toy reward! It’s so hard to think when it’s right there.
#Dogsports #obediencedog #dogtraining #rallydog
And trying to help Ravi with his dumbbell feelings by using a toy reward. This is harder to think, but he’s certainly more excited! #Dogsports #obediencedog #dogtraining #sighthound
Starting a go out with Ravi and scared him with my reward placement!
