Me laughs manically in horse owner and vet bills…
2 weeks having my card and I’m already almost 1/2 way there 😅 (I already have it all budgeted & paying it off as soon as it posts... Not trying to let that 24.5% interest get to me!)
I just looked back at some old invoices and the last coggins and health cert I got were $45/50 each with an additional $83 exam fee (still too much imo) so yeah to not even get anything for almost double that this time plus the coggins going up too is frustrating 🤦🏼♀️💸
I don’t believe they have that lab work done in-house
Prices have definitely skyrocketed since the practice changed hands a hand full of years ago, much more “corporate” feeling. I can’t even reliably text the vet to ask a quick question or make an appointment I have to call the office phone tree 🤦🏼♀️
That’s the part that got me questioning it because it was literally just getting his TPR vitals…It wasn’t even for putting on any kind of heath cert 😅
I’ve just done their shots the last couple years myself because I wasn’t going anywhere so those prices weren’t as shocking

Ok someone please tell me I’m not insane for thinking this is higher than it needs to be for general spring shots/coggins for one horse?!… Or am I just getting more poor and out of touch 🥲
(For reference I’m about 15mi from the clinic now because they moved further away)
Guess we should maybe look at the dressage test for the schooling show on Sunday… or maybe we’ll do that tomorrow 😅
It’s all about exposure for his brain and not %s right now so I’m not too stressed about knowing it
I get they need to make operating revenue, but there’s no other sponsor money/donations they can use to put towards keeping fees down for memberships/show fees? 😳🤷🏼♀️

Me: I absolutely will be standing still 😅 at this point between USEF/USEA I’m gonna be spending more in annual fees to go to one show than it costs to actually go to the show
Also to note he did say when he sees him he may still recommend another ultrasound based on how he knows his legs should be
(But shout out to the other vet he recommended that got back to me about trying to schedule asap, they may just have another customer on their hands lol)
Not saying I’m going to bug my farrier for every little thing involving legs…but I told him what was up with Donte, he called me, said what he thinks Donte has (wind puff) based on knowing his race/eventing history and explained it based on the mechanics of the tendons and tendon sheath

I get that aspect and respect the profession, it just sucks when my vet changed owners and has gone toward a more “corporate feel”… I don’t want to be cheap but if I’m paying that much for diagnostics I at least want more of an answer of what could have cause it besides “I don’t know” 😬
Sees Donte has some inflammation in his LH tendons
Has vet out to do (basic) lameness exam and ultrasound
Determination is that he has inflammation in his tendon but vet couldn’t say/doesn’t know exactly why
Gets charged $584
I might as well just light money on fire at this point because wtf 😅

But I just don’t feel like that support gets reciprocated. Like I know they don’t know my whole backstory with him, but it’s a big loss either way and to not even get a “how are you” or “I couldn’t imagine having to make that call for my cat” check in just sucks.
TW horse loss
Not to be too sad on main 😅 but it sucks that my closest friend(s) haven’t really said anything or offered consolation about having to schedule all of the last arrangements for Zar this week.
No matter how mundane their venting is I try to validate their feelings and give my support
I usually have something similar, but it’s like it came one time in the beginning of the year and has definitely overstayed its welcome by now 🤦🏼♀️ Hopefully I’m able to find time to do nothing 😅 maybe I can schedule that for next weekend lol
I don’t want to just be going through the motions right now, I want to actually want to go do things. Even if I have to do them alone!! And I don’t want to feel terrible about telling people “I’m busy” all the time because I’m busy trying to find where tf all my energy went 😬
I’m in the process with my therapist of trying to find something medication wise that might help too because even the high from having a good lesson only lasts until I get back home if I’m lucky then the spoons are gone again 😅
Gonna shout into the void and ask what are good ways to get out of a funk?
Not like a “oh I just want to chill today” vibe but like the energy to just exist is taxing so trying to start things I think about wanting to do is essentially a no go 🫤
