Totally agree. When I walked under the B1 at EAA, I’m in awe of the machinery. But the purpose for which people built such an impressive machine makes one contemplate humanity.

I’d argue the Spitfire, Mustang, Nieuport 28 etc were built to destroy machines (other airplanes), more than they were built to kill people.
