While everything is, in the end a remix, I find it kind of nuts how many pop rock bands in the last couple of decades have lifted direct melodies/chords progressions/rhythms from XTC's catalog.

This Friday, I'm going to somehow fit in Severance, Yellow Jackets, and White Lotus. Somehow.

All the Stars is a Kendrick song I totally forgot about! So good.

I agree with this sentiment but I also feel that many people ridicule those who don't understand the difference and it really bothers me. AI can be used effectively as a catch-all in some instances. Yet, I agree that if we are going to focus on AI ethics, students need to differentiate terms/vocab.

So many books are available within Spotify premium. Not sure I really need my expensive Audible subscription anymore.

I follow eight people on Bluesky and therefore, when I log in, I see the same stuff I saw yesterday.

And it is just delightful.

I'm always on the lookout for a Mystic. Lots of mult in exchange for discards... sometimes it works against me, but often I come out on top.

Oh, NOW is when everyone thinks Zuck is the worst? It wasn't when he turned Facebook from a cool way to connect to friends to brain rot and AI generated ad-infested memes years ago? Okay.

Also, almost everyone I know who makes a "I'm leaving facebook post" comes back. I keep track.

Well, I watched my first football game (commanders vs lions) and was very pleased with the result. I think I'll watch another one soon.

Given that I see that I can reply to people with AI generated responses on Meta products and LinkedIn, I imagine it's only a matter of time before there is a clippy-style "looks like you're writing a research paper" on Canvas/LMS. I hope I'm wrong.

Here's the best way I can describe teaching during the AI storm.

I'm in a constant state of developing:

1️⃣ Immediate stopgap measures that get me through the day

2️⃣ Long-term plans for what I think teaching will look like in 5 years.

Ideally, #1 would lead me to #2.

One thing that's always intrigued me is that Cal Newport has famously said he's never had social media... but his show exists on YouTube (and podcast form). So, is he not on social media or is his chosen platform just less of a conversational platform than, say, X or LinkedIn?

and also the fact that mine has 36 keys so I needed to memorize some of the layers. but even that took quicker than I thought. the arrows and num keys were the trickiest since I use them the most.

It's the b/n keys that required the most reprogramming, but it took maybe 1-2 weeks of use to really get it down. Now it feels weird to go back to a regular keyboard.

After almost a year of using it, I can say that an ergonomic split keyboard (a Corne) has been an incredible investment. It is truly hard to go back to any other keyboard at this point (though I often have to).

That makes them an instant follow for me!

I'm wondering why there hasn't been a big push to move research papers away from fancy formatted PDFs to just plain text/markdown/mermaid.

Enough structure so that fancy graphs and graphics and maths can be included, but so that data extraction is simple.

My 6 year old is going through a spooky season.

He's always shied away from any books or shows that are even a little bit spooky.

He now describes these kinds of media as "spooky but exciting" and "horrifying, but interesting."

It is so cool watching humans grow.

Let's do it. I've got a bag of physical gems somewhere in an early MTG starter kit that's probably worth billions. Or, more likely, my parents threw it out.
