This is why science is so exciting: “This surprised me because we had no prior evidence…” Imagine the excitement in the lab when these results emerged! This tiny single-celled organism learned to ignore being gently tapped in its Petri dish. It learned. That’s amazing!

The new normal: six in ten under-35s now have 'no religion'

The new normal: six in ten under-35s now have 'no religion'

It's official! Six in ten people aged 16 to 34 identify with no religion, according to new analysis of the gold-standard British Social Attitudes (BSA) survey – and once young people grow up without religion, research shows they almost never acquire one. humanists.uk/2026/04/02/n...

This makes me very happy. J.H.Williams III is amongst my favourite artists and now I'm going to get his art on the cover of a book I was already looking forward to. Nice!

On the left is the cover of the book Terry Moore's How to Draw 2026. It shows a woman with long black hair wearing a red dress. She's sat with a sketch pad in her left hand.

On the right is the cover of the comic Fear of Death - A Rachel Rising Story. It shows a dark-haired woman in a brown, hooded wrap standing in a distorted, nightmarish graveyard.

'Terry Moore's How to Draw 2026' and 'Fear of Death (A Rachel Rising Story)' arrived safely here in England today.
They're so nice. The lighting, and my terrible photography, don't do the art or the quality of the books justice.
Thank you, @terrymooreart.bsky.social , I'm going to enjoy these.

Stand against Christian Nationalism and religious extremism 🚩 Across the UK, extremist voices are trying to fuse religion with politics, meaning rights rolled back, freedoms undermined, and tolerance eroded. Fanaticism is not defeated with more fanaticism. Th...

Christian Nationalism is a divisive dead end.

Most people in Britain aren’t Christian in beliefs, practices, or identity.

The only basis for national identity in our country is shared values and institutions of our plural society.

A Wizard of Earthsea is one of the most influential books on my love of fantasy. I got it from the local children's library when I was quite young - 10 ish - and read it multiple times. It was so good and one that I've read since with new understanding.

How do humanists tell right from wrong? Humanists believe morality comes from our shared human needs and our ability to understand the consequences of our actions. Humanists maintain that people don't need to believe in gods to tell right from wrong. Humanists try to reduce harm and increase well-being, treating others as we'd like to be treated. This is sometimes referred to as the 'the golden rule'

Will Greenwood was on Radio 4’s Today programme this morning, with a philosophical reflection on England’s performance. The response: “We should sign you up for Thought for the Day”. And yet - that wouldn’t happen, would it, Radio 4 - because you reserve that spot exclusively for religious voices.

It's a very weasely statement with phrases like "not enough" and "good quality" and "continues to consider" used to shield NHS England and give the impression that they haven't already made up their bigoted little minds.

The Bill is, famously, the standard by which we measure societal health. That's why it's impossible to know how good it was before 1984.

That is a great one. Once you get past his first season, Sylvester McCoy got some superb stories. There's a special edition version of The Curse of Fenric that I especially enjoy.
