Mad fact... 42% of Labour Prime Ministers have had to fire Peter Mandelson.

I fully expect a string of incoherent 3am posts clarifying the situation to be waiting for me when I check tomorrow.

Thoughts about Starmers speech. I was surprised by the vitriol from his own backbenchers. His excuses seemed tired & feeble. Badenoch was -for the first time- not bad.

Overall I think he’s politically dead, but is saving his departure to take the blame for May. As to successor, probably Milliband?

Seems ok here (Germany).

Look, if he wants to parachute into Iran under enemy fire, who are we to prevent him?

It’s mainly wishcasting, but he did correctly diagnose labours problem a few months back - namely that governments can’t win if they’re constantly defensive & bemoaning how bad everything is. You need a positive vision.

It’s a high risk strategy. Given his record there’s a non-zero chance he could start a war between Pakistan & India.

Because I think that purely private enterprise is a different beast compared to 'public infrastructure paid by taxpayers money'?

I drive over the bridge to the Isle of Skye fairly regularly and am inevitable told that HMG has paid 10x the purchase price since it was built.... Every. Single. Time.

I get the point you are making, but see no reason why profits can't be capped at (e.g.) "2% above the BOE interest rate p.a." for cooperative public-private investments -as long as there is also a 'reverts to public ownership' clause at the end of it, that prevents the idiocy of PFI perma-debt.

Mind you, I do get to watch Buffy with my kids on Tuesday & Wednesday before they go out to scouts / swimming. We’re building up to the mayors ascension & it’s such joy to see them ‚get‘ it.

I meant "about 2 or 3 episodes of /anything/ per week"! Currently we're watching Shrinking & then we'll be moving on to For All Mankind & then... maybe the Pit?

I have heard only good things about The Pitt & it is definitely on my ever-growing "to watch" list (which I work through at the rate of perhaps two episodes per week 🙄).

“Darkness falls across the land
The midnight hour is close at hand
Creatures crawl in search of blood
To terrorize y’all’s neighborhood
And whosoever shall be found
Without the soul for getting down
Must stand and face the hounds of hell
And rot inside a corpse’s shell"

But AI! It’s got AI in it! All our focus groups say that everyone loves AI!

At this stage of things I think he’s probably hanging in to take the fall for the May local elections. He can only resign once.

5 days ago 1 0 0 0

The problem nowadays is that CEOs don't want to work. They just want money for laying people off and blathering about AI, not for producing any positive or concrete improvement to the business. They expect hundreds of millions for thousands of job loses and it's weak sauce, snowflake behaviour.

Dynamic alignment is a prerequisite & merely a single ingredient of a deal, not some sort of economic panacea.

Try something smaller then! A mouse, perhaps?

Does it work for other animals? Have you tried "oh Hello, horse" for example?

One of the core tenets of the American-centric worldview is that “everyone wants to be an American – we’re the bestest, freest nation on the planet”, which, um, simply isn’t true.
