Emily's work has truly inspired one little boy today!
Such a pleasure to record this, and talk about the ethical dimensions to working with SEND. Although pressures around accountability and the necessity of essential training may make ethical reflection in schools feel like an indulgence, it is imperative.
Today is the official publication date of my new book 'Severe and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties in School'. I am excited to hear what people think of some of the ideas outlined within it: www.routledge.com/Severe-Profo...
I really do hope that this book plays a small role in engaging its readers in valuable professional dialogues and enquiry.
I am yet to get my hands on a copy of my new book 'Severe and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties in School' but my friend pre-ordered a copy and sent me this!

Great to see that research is being undertaken in this area, as it is key to ensuring that schools benefit from the expertise and talent of older female school leaders.
Happy World Book Day everyone! We have one excited bunny in this family! @jamiesmart.bsky.social
Thank-You so much. Really helpful!
Perfect timing! This is ideal for what I am writing this morning, about the importance thinking beyond the technical aspects of pedagogy and task analysis with learners with SEN. Sorry to ask, but do you have a link to where this slide is located, so I can reference it?
For those of you who are members of the Chartered College of Teaching, my article on 'Topographical Teaching' and Severe and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, was published in the online version of the 'Impact' journal yesterday: my.chartered.college/impact_artic...

Submitted yesterday. Main points were around meeting children and young people at their actual point of learning, and some suggestions for improving outcomes for those with barriers to learning, including those with SPMLD and those from deprived families.
Dug this fantastic artwork out today, for a session with some initial teacher trainees on Severe and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties. Always a privilege to work with her legacy, and reflect on how there are more similarities between children and young people, than there are differences.
Proud of the series of interactive maps I put together on special and inclusive education today, for students on our PG Cert Leading SEN in International Contexts. Applications are still open for our 2024-25 cohort: www.leedsbeckett.ac.uk/courses/spec...
Surely these lanyards are in place for the benefit of the individual with a hidden disability. Here, we have a school instead using them for its own perceived benefit: www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
In this blog, I analyse an episode of the school-based comedy TV show, from the ABC television network, ‘Abbott Elementary’, applying the ideas of the philosopher John Rawls. I had so much fun writing this! @npr.org @quintabrunson.bsky.social www.leedsbeckett.ac.uk/blogs/carneg...
Such an inspiring day yesterday, working with our PGCE students before they go off on their SEND placements, which begin today! Best wishes to all of those about to experience practice in SEND departments and special schools!
Back into writing today, following a few weeks of marking, . Working with a colleague on a book chapter on Maxine's Greene's inspired essay 'Multiple Voices and Multiple Realities' youtu.be/w4Dn1XxXs3s?...
Selfies of the week! 1/Silent disco for early career researchers at the Manchester Museum and 2/Exploring our new Carnegie School of Education home on the Headingley campus, Leeds.
This week I returned to Oxford Road, Manchester (the street where I was born!) for the 2024 BERA Conf. It's been an inspiring few days of learning, networking, and establishing next steps for developing myself, and the field I research in. Also got to present my paper on 'Topographical Teaching'!
Gearing up to get up very early on a Sunday, to head straight to this year's British Educational Research Association conference, where I will be attending a workshop on publication. Also looking forward to catching up with Leeds Beckett colleagues and presenting my paper on Wednesday
Its arrived! In Chapter 4 of this exciting new publication, I unpick some complexities associated with teaching pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties within the KS4 RE classroom. I'm particularly proud of this one! @natre-update.bsky.social @marymyatt.bsky.social @mzmarxre.bsky.social
