Ever wonder how Final Fantasy gets the numbers you see during battle? How do your stats contribute to physical attacks? Are there any bugs in the game? (spoilers: uhh... yeah)
Behind the Code has finally reached Final Fantasy. Enjoy.

Police Quest II opening.
Play it loud.
Just my opinion.

Yeah. That's what the datasheet said. I think normal operating temperature goes up to like 70?
Nothing really stood out. It just... car no go.
Got a new toy! Let’s check out this EISA board once again.
No video. No POST codes. Draws power of 26 watts, and the chips warm up.
The toastiest one is… a PAL chip? What is this for? It warmed up 7 degrees C over a few minutes (but not to “hot hot” levels)
Hmm. What next?
Made a mouse trap?
That cap brand says it all…
Do any of you use an Extron 300 A for capturing DOS stuff? Because maaaan, dealing with 720x400 and 320x200 and total pixels and phase is quite a thing.
If you use something else that you’d recommend, I am listening.
The jumpers are set. The timings are tight.
It is time to kick this 486 system into...
Got it in there. Changed jumpers. Processor recognized.
I can edit BIOS settings and mess around just fine, but it freezes on the system info screen just after parallel ports are listed. Rats.
I hope my documentation is correct.
Actually, it appears this is normal as there are four of them in the same place along the diagonals from center.
I guess I just need to continue to check all pins for straightness.
Why won’t this processor drop into the socket?
Wait… what is going on with this pin?
Let’s. GO.
I think we are in agreement when I say -
Hey, @jeffchen.bsky.social! Time to flex those bottomless pockets and showcase some 3dfx action on social media!
I can’t even… Univbe + S3 805 VLB card… what are y’all DOING? Is this a race?
My LCD monitor sees what the scope sees and is displaying the following message:
LOLNO
320x200 is output to a VGA monitor as 640x400. It is also the most common resolution used in the DOS days. The VESA implementation for the resolution for this card I have, however, is an issue. Not sure what is up.
Yep
What type of vertical refresh could univbe possibly want to output for something like a simple 320x200 VESA mode? Did they just get their calculations wrong on the line timings? It isn't like I am trying to blow a RAMDAC past 1280x1024 @ 75hz and maxing at 45hz interlaced or something.
<sips tea. Sets mug down on the table quietly>
<pinches bridge of nose>
<writes the following>
So I have a new VLB VGA card that i want to spit out low res VESA modes. Test bench LCD monitor says out of range, and I am honestly considering running VSync through my scope to find out WHAT is going on.
Ahh man. That’s the primary card in my main retro system.
I don’t remember if I have ram in the sockets or not.
<Adds PS3 Phat to box labeled “send to Jeff Chen for repair.”>
Hmm. Things more related to hardware, software, and tweaking more than it is dealing with code of pc games. Perhaps I should edit the post.
Well... I guess I am trying to prepare everyone for retro PC content on the channel. "Brace for impact," so to speak.

If you ever run out of stuff, I’ll send you some stuff.🤡
Ha! I can’t remember how much it slows down when I turn off turbo. It may even be slower than 33.

I don’t know if there is a reward for dumbest retro pc endeavor on youtube, but I might be aiming for it.
