Unfortunately, the only real solution for feeling like you're running out of things to say to people is to actually go and have new experiences.

I thought this point Eric made about how libraries are early introductions to a social contract was really interesting, too:

A black and white comic, three panels stacked one on top of the other with white gutters. In the top panel, a toad looks questioning as a balloon from off panel exclaims, "You poor creature!" In the middle panel, the toad looks quite literally the most crestfallen I've ever seen a face as the balloon from off panel says, "It must be so hard..." And in the last and bottom panel, the toad lights up, stars appearing around their head, warmed by the words in the balloon from off panel that continues, "...being the most beautiful toad in the world!"

was recently reminded of one of my all-time favorite bits of sequential acting, drawn by Natalya Lobanova

Advil PM box art I edited to read

Email PM

The moon and cloud over the classic advil vanishing point blue gridlines

the capsule replaced with a blue envelope and notification bell signifying "1"

The box reads:

Oh my god it's 10:00pm.
Does this person have
no life or what's the deal?

Below the envelope it reads:

Honestly Sad*
*Super Sad Actually

Today specifically is National Library Worker's Day in the US! Library workers are so much more than librarians - it's the janitors, maintenance crew, volunteers, event staff, social media coordinators, paraprofessionals (like me!) - all working towards making libraries a great place to be!

This year I want to encourage you all to find something new to love about your library. Visit the library with a friend! Find the community spaces! Look up events! Join a reading group! Ask the librarians about something you're curious about! Try something new! There is something here for everyone!

A colorful cartoon graphic from the American Library Association! It depicts the front of a library with a big pink banner that reads "FIND YOUR JOY!" There is a diverse group of people - young, old, disabled, and of many ethnicities - walking towards the library entrance, where Mychal Threets awaits, greeting everyone with a wave and an open door.

Hi! It's your (2nd) favorite internet librarian here to talk about libraries!

โœจ IT'S NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK โœจ

Every April the ALA celebrates libraries, their workers, the patrons, and all things library. This year's theme is "Find Your Joy" inspired by @mychal3ts.bsky.social and his Library Joy ๐Ÿ’–

this is one of the main failures of post apocalyptic stories, particularly The Walking Dead

those who believe the only thing that keeps people from murdering each other is the existence of laws are the ones telling on themselves

humans have only ever survived through cooperation

OH I JUST REALIZED THEY PROBABLY DONT HAVE DOCUMENTATION AT ALL. ๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ

frankly i also think the rise in "ask claude code instead of experienced employees in that area" also has us cooked. i dont think its going to necessarily lower the value of the experience, but it does mean companies are getting less efficient from not using the resources they pay for (employees)

at that point why do you even pay for confluence dude

honest to god the more i look at open jobs, whether it's as an application engineer, product management, or software engineer, the more im convinced that i just need to bail out of the software industry entirely. i just saw a job post that wants someone who asks AI before internal documentation ๐Ÿฅด

and then you have the old joke (vaguely to the tune of bottles of beer on the wall) - "99 bugs in the code, take one down and patch it out, 127 bugs in the code"

6 days ago 0 0 0 0

this but also "already works" is a VERY loose designation. pretty much anything published has bugs, and the publishers almost certainly know about them but at a certain point its get it out there or get stuck bug hunting forever. the key is prioritizing visible bugs so it SEEMS fine

i get that giving themselves plausible reason to issue more denials seems profitable, but imo not at least performing basic CYA like "did this account have an identical PA approved before" is just. a real bad idea.
