Absolutely true, but I do love crafting sometimes. A game called Underrail did it well, and sometimes a maintainence mechanic works well, as long as it's not constant.
Maybe crafting mechanics can be refined so that it only goes so far as visual customisation, or poorer imitations of consumables.
Glazing base material for a more intricate vase/bottle with clay strips. This allows the glazing to "clog up" between the strips and be of a heavier color (without the underlayer shining through). This also creates the effect of "dripping" in glazing when fired.
Base glazing of layering cup with the effect where in certain parts, when fired, the glazing halts/builds up in the middle of the cup.
