Hi, I'm one of the authors of the blog. Great question! The ONS Management and Expectations Survey asks firms directly whether AI is used as part of their business methods or processes. So it likely captures deliberate integration rather than incidental use like email.

Because of the size of the literature, we use an LLM to help us sort out relevant papers. We also use topic modeling to identify themes in the literature.
New paper out! In this work with @lucyjh.bsky.social, we dove deep into the Economics of AI Literature. We identified the research questions that have been explored extensively and discussed the research questions needed to support current policy questions.
Great discussion at today’s Bennett School lunchtime seminar👏
@johnlpoquiz.bsky.social & Nghi Nguyen shared early findings on why AI adoption is stalling in parts of the real economy—and what firms need to make it work.
Look out for their research paper on firms' AI adoption coming out in March.

Economists often celebrate competition for delivering better, cheaper, more diverse choices—but is it always the hero?
Using SHEIN, Palantir, Samsung, & Boeing as examples, Nghi Nguyen explores when market competition may do more harm than good.

Is competition always the hero?
We compete for schools & jobs, while economists praise market competition for better choices.
But cases like SHEIN, Palantir, Samsung, & Boeing suggest competition can sometimes do more harm than good.

🧵The US leads the G7 in GDP growth. But what if we strip out the top 1%? Is the picture still the same?
@johnlpoquiz.bsky.social & Nghi Nguyen analyse the data by excluding the income & spending of the top earners to reveal a more realistic picture 👇
What happens to economic growth if we take out income from the top earners?
In this blog post, we examine what happens when we adjust GDP by removing income from the top 1% and top 10%. Our estimates paint a different story of growth.
