Our EV6 is quiet, the drive is the smoothest I’ve ever had in a car, the acceleration is instant. And our charging costs per month are about 1/3 what I was paying to fuel a gas hybrid. Usually costs us about $25/month to charge the car.

Having been an electric vehicle owner for over a year and a half now, I’m starting to realize how spoiled I’ve become.

Had to get a rental and was given a ICE Jeep. Going back seems awful, from the vibrations of the engine, the noise, the anemic acceleration, it’s an overall inferior experience.

Broccoli cheddar soup with bread bowl.

I Actually feel like I got the béchamel really creamy. Taking your time and incorporating the milk over really low heat seems to make the difference.

Second of 2 baguettes made today to go with our hearty beef stew that was slow-simmered this evening (not pictured). It’s hovering around 20° right now and nice to have something warm and hearty in my belly this evening. #homemade #sourdough #baguette

“How long do they last,” I asked him. He told me about 8 or 9 years and I reassured him we would get it fixed.

Today I fixed it, thanks to the parts my brother-in-law had ordered before the holidays. New rollers, idler pulley, and of course a new dryer belt.

Dad would be pleased.

My mom had just showed me how her dryer was making a horrible noise. Then we were in the living room talking about how to get it fixed while dad was seemingly in and out of sleep. We didn’t think he was paying attention when he suddenly said, “you know dyer belts don’t last forever.”

“You know dyer belts don’t last forever.”

That was one of the last things my dad said to me. The afternoon before he went into in-patient hospice care, my sister, mom and I were all tending to him at home since he was having a bad day.

After a post Xmas meet up with my partner’s mother, they gifted me with this bottle of Michter’s Sour Mash. A delightful bottle, really, with a sweetness and savory like French toast and maple syrup. #whiskey #tastingnotes

Following his lead made sure that his memory was present on Christmas Day and helped me to make sure that the person he was to all of us is never forgotten.

I’m not crying, you are!

One envelope had scratch-off lottery cards which he loved to give out on the chance that one of us would hit the jackpot, the other was often just some cash, and everyone got the same.

My challenge was a kind of dad/pop trivia. Questions about things that happened in his life. Some easy, some more difficult. If you got the answer correct, you’d earn the second envelope.

But he always gave you a way to get whatever was in the second.

To honor his memory, I had my own two envelopes, one big another smaller. Everyone got to pick one. And then you could win back the envelope you didn’t pick through some kind of challenge.

Managed to get through my first Christmas without my dad. It was an emotional night to be sure. But he always had his own fun at the end of the evening after everyone had opened their gifts. He always made a game of it. There were usually two envelopes and you had to pick one.

Not at all unhappy about how the Xmas loaf turned out. My creative scoring on the back side could use a little work tho! #sourdough #breadmaker #homemade

Distilled from Penn Brewery’s St. Nicholas Bock these little bottles of Wigle’s St.Nick have become a holiday tradition for me. For me, it’s got the sweetness of a nice clementine with some clove spices. Happy Christmas everyone! #whiskey #craftdistillers #pawhiskey

Had the inspiration to make an English Cottage Pie tonight for dinner, but wasn’t thrilled with the idea of using ordinary ground beef, so upgraded to some beef short ribs. Seared and ready to go into the oven for a few hours before constructing the pie. #cottagepie #beefshortribs #homecooking

What a nice bottle of bourbon. Angel’s Envy Straight Kentucky Bourbon finished in Port Wine Barrels. Tastes of spicy sautéd apples. Perfect way to cap off the last full day of work before holiday break. #angelsenvy #bourbon #whiskey #tastingnotes

Got ourselves a festive tree for inside the house for the next month. We put lights on it since there are so few daylight hours this time of year. The cats are thrilled!
