Before I ever heard a Mountain Goats song I read @themountaingoats.bsky.social’s Master of Reality book and I can’t remember the exact phrasing but his description of Ozzy’s vox sounding like he was yanked out of bed and put in front of a mic before he could get his bearings completely nailed him.

RIP Ozzy... a genuine one-of-a-kind in American pop culture. We've had a lot of larger-than-life rockstars, but were any others as successful in becoming the monolithic icon of an aesthetic and subculture the way the Prince of Darkness did? Also, there's the tunes, many of which are all-timers. RIP.

What happened with Polygon today is so fucked. Vox Media has made some atrocious decisions in my six years here but this is really something else. And to do this in the middle of us bargaining a new union contract, where they scold us for asking for better protections, is just unconscionable.

This is tragic. Polygon and the crew were the best around for years... in large part to Chris's stewardship. Heartbreaking and disappointing.
