No don’t worry, I can tell you’re optimistic and generally curious. I can’t be here all day on this, so I’d recommend listening to and supporting real artists and listening to the struggles they’ve faced in recent years over this. Also prepare for the “AI” fad to crash because wow is it overdue.
Well yes, all of the major models are trained on stolen data. And to propagate itself, more data centres are being constructed and the resource drain is hurting people, the economy, tech, the world at large, everything really. Don’t want to come off as a doomer, but things are dire.
The only admission I’d give for “AI” in general are sustainable MLMs to assist in tasks that are hazardous or dangerous for people; not Buzzfeed trying to profit off a cartoon dog. And even my admission is weaponised by the worst of humanity to propagate more profit-driven harm and destruction.
You give an inch and they take a mile: plagiarism is never okay.
But aside, we’re long past the point of hypothetical harm. Economic and environmental damage, data centres poisoning, disabling and killing nearby poor, primarily black communities, the chatbot inspired murder suicides. Research.
I mean any corporation that embraces Generative AI usage in spite of the real harm it causes deserves to be shut down and that’s not even a spicy take: but I’m keeping an eye on the developing situation and remain cautiously optimistic.
Far from a spicy or a controversial take, but Buzzfeed needs to burn and die. This show was a beacon of positivity that I've enjoyed for years and, like most things in our current hellscape, it has been poisoned by corporate greed and theft. #NoAI #ChiknNuggit #SupportArtists
